West Side Schools Adopt Five Day Break Amid Harvest Need

West Side School District trustees approve five day holiday: two for teachers institute and three for harvest vacation. Superintendent Lyle Porter cites labor shortages and farmer needs. students return October 16 with six farm days to assist. Harvest days to be made up in spring. school ends May 23.

Champion Named By Club Preston Championship Recap

Dennis Bosworth, son of Mr and Mrs Reed Bosworth of Preston, won the Preston and Country Club championship after 72 holes over two weekends with a 303. Wayne Doney was runner up in the championship flight, Vic Halford third. In the first flight Jim Cole won, Sherwin Webb second, Eddie Mather third. In the second flight Bruce Game with Robert Steadman second and Greg Nelson third.

County Civil Defense to Discuss Community Shelter Plan

A special Civil Defense meeting is set for Oct 15 at 2 p.m. in the Franklin County Courthouse to form a CSP policy advisory committee for a countywide shelter plan. Sheriff Arando Larsen notes Franklin County will participate in a federal fund shelter planning program with Idaho officials and US Office of Civil Defense.

Mid term report cards went out Wednesday to all Preston high school and junior high school students. Principal Sylvester Anderson urged parents to contact the school with questions and to ask students to show the cards.

Voters in Preston Franklin Clifton Dayton Oxford Weston and Dayton area will face council and mayor contests on November 4. Preston mayor candidates are Lynn Porter and Glen Gamble with Gamble as current council member. if elected a vacancy will be filled. Home Gutted By Early Sunday Fire in Dayton

Fire at the Leon Nuffer residence in Dayton destroyed the home and its contents and damaged a car in the garage. The Preston fire department blamed an oil furnace in the basement with the blaze starting after a loud pop. The Nuffer family escaped with three children after waking to flames. it took 45 minutes to report the fire, which also severed local telephone lines.

Four Seek Grace City Council Seats
