W Paul Merrill, chairman of the county War Fund drive, warned the county may miss the 6900 quota without immediate public support. Only 25 percent of the quota was reported by Thursday evening, with over one third of the time elapsed. He cited peacetime apathy and urged aid for soldiers abroad and humanitarian relief for Allies and liberated peoples.
The rear alley on West Main Street and the rear entrances of businesses are nearly fully surfaced with oil. Oil roads are being laid on both sides of the courthouse to facilitate parking. Olaf Nelson of Ogan Utah conducts the work as part of the city oiling program nearing completion.

The letter details a night clash with German forces at Repertsseiter, a daytime volunteer patrol, and the ensuing heavy fire that claimed Coburn and others.
County commissioners sign an order authorizing an election by property owners in Treasureton and Riverdale to decide if separate cemetery districts should exist. The order follows a petition outlining the districts and will trigger a future election for bona fide voters in the two areas.

Lloyd discharged after Iwo Jima wounds. Boyd killed at Iwo Jima.
Ivan Goff resigns as chairman after about nineteen years of service on the Franklin County War Price and Ration Board. The board may elect a successor soon. remaining members are R. B. Gibson Orson Baugh W. Paul Merrill and Harold Hansen. Goff thanks the public for cooperation during his tenure.
Franklin county enthusiasts will hunt the 1945 water fowl season starting Saturday October 13 with a large expected flight of ducks and geese. Daily hours run one half hour before sunrise to sunset across Idaho's four time zones.
W. B. Murray district manager of Sego Milk in Richmond spoke at the Preston Lions Club at Randall's cafe. He cited Franklin county as a leading dairy producer and forecast a strong postwar future for dairymen while addressing industry regulations.
Thomas Hardy formerly of Salt Lake City announces Hardy Mercantile opening next week in Mink Creek in the building used by prior stores. The store offers groceries meats hardware dry goods drugs and general merchandise to Mink Creek Riverdale and nearby residents.
Members of the Preston Elks club will enjoy a Dutch lunch after the regular meeting on Thursday October 18. The refreshment committee Julius Cabutti and Frank Foss will provide lunch meats cheeses and sandwiches with beverages paid separately. Exalted Ruler T R Bowden reports rapid October membership signups and gold stars appearing on the membership board.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p m in the Glencoe ward chapel for James Jepsen 18 son of Bishop and Mrs Hyrum Jepsen who died Sunday morning at Preston Memorial hospital following an auto accident. Seven other youths were injured in two crashes after Saturday night dances near Preston. The car Jepsen rode in was driven by Keith Hansen 16 other occupants included Gene Smith 15 and Marilyn Bosen. The Hansen car plunged down a 200 foot embankment into Bear river under 28 feet of water. James Jepsen suffered a fatal fracture. Gene Smith sustained leg fractures and body bruises Marilyn Bosen also injured. The crashes occurred about six miles north of Preston.
Civic leaders met to outline a fact finding group to study local hospitalization needs. The task includes choosing between expanding the current Preston hospital or building a new facility and deciding administration, with LDS church potential involvement.
Postmaster Hale Hart warns that the deadline for sending yuletide gifts to service members overseas is October 15. He stresses immediate action to ensure every loyal soldier receives a Christmas gift this year.
Henry H. Rawlings announced that Franklin County Local Board No. 1 is designated a Veterans Information Center by the Retraining and Reemployment Administration. Located at the Court House, the center assists veterans with reinstatement rights, reemployment, insurance, G I loans, education, and job aid with free services.
Smith Allen announces a new oil powered steam plant at Allen's Texaco Service to heat vulcanizing molds, supply hot water for the wash room, and provide heat for the station.
The MIA asks ward and stake workers to attend the Oneida Benson and Franklin stake conferences in Franklin Stake House on Oct 9 and 20. W O Robinson Katie C Jenson and other board members will instruct MIA workers. Friday 7 30 general session then work forum for Executives Era directors Special Interest Speech and Dance departments. Saturday 4 pm Bee Hive Drama workers and 7 30 department for Gleaners Juniors Dance and Music.
The Central School hosts a P T A get acquainted meeting for parents of schoolchildren on Friday in the school building. A program and light refreshments are planned. Parents are urged to attend and teachers invite them to visit classrooms earlier in the afternoon.
Funeral services for Peter G. Whitehead, traffic victim, were held Monday in the Franklin ward chapel with large attendance. Burial followed in Franklin cemetery. Survivors include his widow, seven daughters, twenty one grandchildren, two brothers, three sisters, and several in laws and extended family.
