County board moves to adopt setback ordinance and public works measures

Franklin County commissioners directed county attorney J D Williams to extend the zoning rule to require permits for new structures and limit use of county roads as parking or corrals. They discussed a Legion Hall decision, Shelter Home funding, tax changes, a hospital capacity notice, a maintenance program offer, and plans to sell Paul Walton’s former property at a public auction.

City opens bids for next phase of water project

The four mile culinary water line bid from Engineer's Construction Co. of Pleasant Grove Utah came in at 449494 versus an engineer's estimate of 435140. Only two bids were opened as several bidders pulled out amid alleged pressure tactics on EDA funded projects. Mountain State Equipment Co. submitted low material bids of 4878 for gates and valves and 242649 for 18 inch cast iron pipe.

Cattle to Undergo Brucellosis Retesting This Winter

The Idaho Department of Agriculture will retest high risk herds in Franklin County and five other counties for brucellosis. All herds in Oneida and the lower half of Bannock counties must retest. Dr A P Schneider cites residual infection and high last winter as reasons for the move.

PUC Grants Rehearing on Utah Power Rate Hike

The Idaho Public Utilities Commission grants a rehearing on Utah Power and Light Co. rate increase citing residential rate structure concerns. Hearings will be held January 10 11 in Preston and Rexburg with additional testimony on tax methods fuel clauses and government cost recovery.

Citizen to publish a day earlier due to holiday

The Citizen will go to press a day early next week because of Thanksgiving. Walter Ross and Wayne Bell announced the change and set the submission deadline for regular and infrequent contributors at Monday noon. Regular monthly Preston City Council meets Monday at 4 p.m. in place of Wednesday. Local officials traveled to Boise to appeal for Route 34 retention in Preston and for the Utah state line on the highway system.

Christmas opening set for Preston area

Preston area officials announce Christmas opening on Saturday November 26 with Santa arriving by helicopter if available to switch on the town lights and light the city tree. Merchants stay open until 7 p.m. Friday November 25 for shoppers.
