Southeast Idaho Council of Governments announces daily intercity bus service starting next week with five 41 passenger coaches between Preston and Soda Springs. The fare is 2 dollars 46 cents per round trip and service includes wheelchair access and modern comfort features.

Santa to visit town with helicopter arrival on Friday
Preston area residents will welcome Santa from the North Pole via helicopter landing at the former Central School site around 4:50 p.m. He will light the Christmas tree at 5 p.m. and greet children at the Central Market building afterward.

Newell Hart Receives National Honor for Preservation Efforts
Preston historian Newell Hart earned a National Award Certificate of Commendation from the American Association for State and Local History for preserving and publishing Southeastern Idaho history. The award, announced by Dr Merle Wells, recognizes outstanding projects nationwide and was to be presented in Charleston, South Carolina, with regional ceremonies planned. Hart has led a solo restoration of the Oneida Stake Academy building, a native rock LDS school structure over 80 years old, after securing school board permission.

Slick roads trigger multiple accidents across Franklin County
Snow kept Franklin County police busy with a rash of minor crashes and vehicles off the road. Two two car wrecks were reported along with several more along Strawberry Highway 36 and Highway 91 south of Preston. Bear River hill in Riverdale saw two large trucks jack-knifed blocking the road. No injuries reported and details were unavailable at press time.

Resident doctors to cover ER during Thanksgiving period
Mahi Nath Franklin County hospital administrator said resident doctors will be available on an emergency room basis during the Thanksgiving holiday. They will staff the hospital starting Wednesday night through Sunday while busy local physicians take a vacation.
