Tomorrow and Saturday mark turkey days in Preston with fifty or more local merchants taking part. An advertisement on page seven lists cooperating merchants and rules. Turkeys will be awarded at noon on the parking lot south of the courthouses. entrants must be present to win, with tickets distributed through Saturday.
Idaho officers Maj. C. P. Devoise and Lt. A C Allen visited Preston to gauge support for a six officer 88 enlisted man guard unit. They outlined equipment needs and noted nearby towns like Malad are bidding. Preston must show enthusiasm to be chosen and join the 116th armored cavalry regiment in Idaho.
Franklin county assessor A. J. Hart announced that 1956 license plates go on sale December 1 at his office. Owners must bring last year’s registration or title. Fees rise by age group with new rates. pet passenger plates must be bought in first two weeks of December. plates feature black numerals on white with World Famous Potatoes at bottom.
A welcome home party for Glen Tanner returning from an LDS mission in California is planned for Friday November 25 at 8 p.m. in the Whitney gymnasium with a program and dance to follow.
Franklin Caribou and Bear Lake counties will close the deer season on Sunday November 20 according to Ed Scholes a local conservation officer. He noted the kill appears lower than last year based on check data and cold storage checks though hunters have left the area reducing county pressure.
The Preston Knife and Fork Club will hold a 7:30 p.m. meeting Saturday with Ed ward McFaul of Chicago as guest speaker. McFaul, a 25 year veteran of club and radio addresses, is described as a serious humorist who informs and amuses audiences. He holds a master's from Michigan and Harvard ties, led DePaul speech, lectured at Northwestern, served in the Navy from Attu to Iwo Jima, and replaces the ill Congressman Van Zandt of Pennsylvania.

Cited as a longtime Democratic leader in the county, Waiddoups 68, of Preston, died Tuesday after a heart seizure. Born December 31, 1895 in Dayton, he lived in Preston most of his life, worked in real estate and farming, and was a member of the LDS Church. He is survived by his wife Annie Jane Page and 16 grandchildren among many children and siblings. Funeral services are set Friday at 2 p.m. in the Preston LDS second ward chapel, with burial in Dayton cemetery.
Local officers and workers of the Franklin County Tuberculosis Association launch their 1955 Christmas seal drive led by chairwoman Mrs. Ruth Weber. Mailings of Christmas seals begin this week as residents are urged to answer their Christmas Seal letter today to fight TB.
Chief Harold Campbell celebrates the reformed Preston junior police as 60 boys ages 8 to 13 enroll, part of a nationwide effort to curb juvenile delinquency and foster respect for law. Six county ASC chairmen were elected from six communities with detailed vote tallies, and will convene December 6 to appoint the county committee for 1956 term.

Patrolman Don Bergquist received praise from L. J. Jim Ward manager of the Grand and Isis theatres for helping after vandalism. Mrs Ward hosted guests from Malad. their car had two flat tires with valve cores removed.
Chief of Police Harold Campbell requests tips after several automobiles in the alley east of State Street were scratched with a nail on Friday afternoon between 2 and 6 p m. Deep X marks require repainting. Police describe the vandal as a small youth and urge parents to address such destructive behavior.
