Half Million Dollars In Mail For Beet Growers
Approximately 500000 dollars was mailed Thursday to 600 local beet growers by the Franklin County Sugar company as the first payment on the 1945 beet crop delivered in October. The payment rate was 9.75 dollars per ton plus a 306 dollar government supported payment. The final payment will be made when sugar and molasses are sold. About 155000 dollars of the excise tax payment is expected to emerge next year if sugar content averages 16.6 percent. Local aid is urged to harvest remaining 3500 tons before freezes. Mexican workers have left. German POWs continue field work amid heavy snows and cold.

Second Medal Awarded Hero from Franklin County
Franklin county servicemen winning the Medal of Honor are noted with Pfc. Leonard C. Brostrom of this city awarded posthumously for heroism in the Philippines on Oct 28 1944. He died after single handedly knocking out a Japanese pillbox during a major Leyte operation. Previously Pvt. Nathan Van Noy from the same county had earned the award, with two Idaho youths among four Medal of Honor recipients in World War II. Brostrom's act occurred with Company F 17th Infantry Regiment Seventh Infantry Division during the Leyte landing. Convictions in Two County Cases at Paris and Logan
Convictions were obtained this week in two Franklin County District Court cases heard in Paris and Logan. In a cattle rustling case the defendants Haymond Smith and Tom Smith of Fish Haven and Ogden Utah were found guilty and sentenced to state prison for one to 15 years after pleading guilty. In a highway robbery case the victims were two Mexican nationals. Joe Gough and Dennis Peterson of Logan Utah were found guilty and await sentencing.
