Chamber of commerce leaders pressed Idaho officials to ensure gas service reaches the southern region including Preston. Ernest Eberhard Jr. and Sherwin Webb reported at hearings in Boise that three distributors seek certificates to extend gas brought by Pacific Northwest Gas Co. Only one company plans near Idaho Falls. Pocatello could use 65 percent of available gas. Main line would pass through Inkom and Soda Springs to Pocatello, with no laterals beyond nearby towns.

Cars Collide Near Glendale Injuries Reported After Head On Crash
On highway 34 near Glendale a 1949 pickup driven by C. V. Sorensen of Preston collided head on with a 1952 sedan driven by Mertha B. McCombs of Riverdale. McCombs and two passengers, Linda and Judy McCombs, were injured and hospitalized. Sorensen’s pickup suffered about $300 damage while the McCombs car was about $350 in damage.

Preston Indians overwhelmed Blackfoot Broncos 34 to 14 in a loud Friday game. The Indians opened fast with a 70 yard opening drive and scored on a 55 yard run by Gordon Oliverson. A 16 year old Whitney resident Mervin Golightly escaped injury early Saturday when he lost control of a 1949 four door sedan on a Weston Fairview road hill and rolled down a 10 foot embankment. Vehicle damage was estimated at $200 and the car is owned by his father Donald Golightly of Whitney.

The Weston Grain Growers Co operative held its third annual stockholders meeting on November 3 at the Weston ward recreation hall. About 100 members and partners attended including Ben Buttars and Orley Dewey with Mike Jones of Jones and Atwood auditing in Ogden. Harold Port and Wilford Young spoke from Farmers Cooperative. dividends of 5880 were paid to 115 patrons for 1940 1941 1942 and 1948. The program included a saxophone solo by Oral Lamoreaux and a vocal by the Gaddie trio of Logan with readings by Claude Wennergren of North Logan. Decorations featured a horn of plenty chrysanthemums fall leaves and grain bags.

Mrs. Reuben Taylor, operator of the Willow Way tavern at the north edge of Preston, was fined 100 dollars in court on October 29 for selling beer to minors. Five boys from the West Side, ages 17, 15, 18, and 14, appeared before Judge W. Paul Merrill of the juvenile court.
Local youths enlist in army airborne training
Dean P. Baker son of Veda P. Baker 284 South First West Preston and Gary Burns Ashcroft son of Tedora Ashcroft 278 West Oneida enlisted in the army airborne last week. They left Fort Douglas Utah Friday evening for basic training at Fort Ord California and will be sent to Fort Bragg North Carolina for airborne training.

School Board opens bids for bond issue and high school addition
The School Board opened bids on Oct 18 for a 400000 dollar school bond. Foster & Marshall of Seattle won with 2.17 percent, covering 18 years at about 26500 to 27500 yearly payment.
