Church Welfare Dedicates New Building

The LDS church welfare building, costing 15406.40, was dedicated Saturday at 3 PM with Marion D. Hanks as principal speaker. Bishop Eli S. Forsgren cited site choices, and Bishop Parley Shaffer announced the cost and donor amounts including 6979.21 from the church. Ward members contributed 4000 hours of labor. relief societies funded window shades. The ceremony included prayers, songs, and remarks by church leaders from Franklin Oneida stakes.

Preston observes holiday on November 11

Next Thursday November 11 will be a holiday in Preston wandall with most businesses closed. The Preston Chamber of Commerce did not include it in the official schedule but decided to observe it. The Preston Citizen will publish on Wednesday next week to accommodate. Advertisers and rural reporters should submit copy earlier than usual.

Ford dealers preview 1955 Ford models in Salt Lake City

McCune Motor Co plans first showing of the all new 1955 Ford on Friday Nov 12 after three representatives including G W McCune Keith Jensen and Dale Saxton visited Salt Lake City to preview the line. They urged the public to attend and judge the new design as worth the wait.

Pheasant Season Ends Sunday in Franklin County

Franklin county hunters were warned by state conservation officer Ed Scholes that pheasant season will end next Sunday. He noted deer season also ends Sunday November 14 and fishing seasons closed October 31 in waters listed as open year round or for special seasons.

Harvest Banquet Planned November 11 in Preston

The Preston Chamber of Commerce and local American Legion post announce a harvest banquet set for 7 30 p m November 11 in the courthouse basement. Proceeds above expenses will aid finishing the new Legion building roof. Tickets are on sale and a prominent speaker is sought to headline the program.

Ken's Electric Moves to New State Street Building

Ken's Electric Co. moved stock and fixtures from 10 North State St. to 17 North State St. yesterday in a remodeled building formerly occupied by Homer Tractor service. The firm will open soon with a grand opening planned and invites the public to visit this weekend to view the new store and its expanded hardware stock.

Fire Department Takes Run Monday

Fire department responded to a Monday fire at a small house near the Preston sewage disposal plant. Wiring sparked the blaze but damage remained minimal and no injuries were reported.

Back-to-School Night Scheduled by Jefferson PTA

The Jefferson school PTA backs back-to-school night for next Monday at 8 p.m. A short program precedes classroom visits for parents. A door prize will be given and the room with the most parents present will receive a prize.

Annual Turkey Shoot Held by Preston Rifle Club

The Preston Bear River area rifle club will stage its annual turkey shoot on Sunday November 14 starting at 10 a.m. Turkeys are up for grabs for top marksmen either by spinning wheel or direct shooting. The event takes place on the Don Whittle range near the Bear River bridge west of Preston.

Wood Department Leases A and H Recreation Center

Mr and Mrs Jack Wood formerly of Brigham City Utah have taken over management of the A H Recreation Center. They have leased from Mr and Mrs A E Bennett who plan to return to farming. The Woods will expand the lunch menu and have added a small enclosed kitchen. Both are experienced restaurant operators.

West Side Music Welcomes Marlon Hill New Transfer

Marlon V Hill transfers to West Side High School from Lewiston Junior High to take John P Manning’s instructional music post. Hill taught band at Lewiston Junior High for three years and studied at Weber College and USAC earning a bachelor's degree. He is married to Edna Mae Noorda of Ogden with three children Linda Ann Paul Vernon and Douglas, and plans to move to West in.

Jefferson School Entered Illegally

Jefferson School was broken into Tuesday evening. Entry gained through a broken front door and forced outer door to the principal’s office. A box of groceries was removed from the cafeteria area. nothing else was taken. Police have no clues.
