Citizens Contest For Bicycles Nears Conclusion

Interest grows as the Pres ton Citizen contest ends soon with six bicycles and cash prizes. Subscriptions and money are sealed for ballot counting Saturday at 7 30 pm. Judges tally votes and awards follow immediately. Rules require each candidate to submit at least three subscriptions each report day.

Preston Rifle club announces a turkey shoot on Sunday November 15 at the Don Whittle range west of Preston near the Bear river bridge. The annual event includes 100 yard big bore contests spinning wheel events and rifle relays.

William J. Turner Dies En Route to Arizona

William J Turner 78 of Preston Utah died Wednesday noon in Panguitch Utah while traveling with his wife to spend the winter in Arizona. He was born January 29 1875 in Richfield Utah and married Susan Stephenson November 19 1908 in the Salt Lake LDS temple. He lived in Grace most his life served as superintendent of the LDS Sunday School ward teacher one of seven presidents of seventies and from 1896 to 1898 fulfilled a church mission to the southern states. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 pm in Franklin stake house with burial in Preston Cemetery.

Theater Program At Dayton Tuesday In The Round

The Dayton ward Mutual Improvement drama directed by Gerald Dalley staged a theater in the round for the first time with the audience on three sides. The program aimed to attract local youths and entertain girls and boys, echoing Brigham Young’s 1862 Salt Lake dedication remark about theater aiding the pulpit.

Former Bishop of Banida Ward to Go on Mission

Fred Li. Gregersen, 45, of Banida will be honored Friday November 13 in the ward recreation hall before leaving for the Danish LDS mission December 3. He was bishop 1943 to 1953 and is a high priest in Oneida stake with roles in Explorer leadership and priesthood administration.

A C Hull Jr of Washington D C guides a 23 technician group from nine nations Libya Lebanon Turkey Iraq and Pakistan on a three month western range tour from Montana through Utah with future stops in Nevada Arizona New Mexico and Texas. He is a forest service range research assistant and Point IV consultant who recently advised in Egypt Cyprus Jordan and Israel.

Preston Indians Claim Sixth Straight District Title in 27 7 Victory

Preston Indians sealed their second consecutive fifth district class A football crown with a 27 to 7 win over Montpelier on Friday. Senior stars led the drive including Dick Edgley who scored two touchdowns and caught key passes, as Preston finished the season 6 1 with only a setback to Gooding. Don Gunderson led scorers with 12 touchdowns, while Edwin Hyde and Edgley also contributed major scores. The team outscored opponents 186 to 70 and rushed and passed for 2482 yards in six games.

Conferences Set At Central School

Central school schedules nine week parent teacher conferences for the week of November 9. Each parent will receive an invitation from the child’s teacher to confer on progress and adjustment and to bring questions for the child’s welfare. The conferences replace the nine week report card.

Death of Lawrence Stewart in a Chester Walton residence

Lawrence “Dick” Stewart aged 72 was found dead from gunshot wounds at 40 East Second South Street in Chester Walton. Police said the wounds were self inflicted, a heavy caliber deer rifle lay nearby with one expended shell. Stewart, a longtime county sheepherder, died instantly after the second shot. Funeral services were held at the Cleveland LDS ward chapel.

Angus J. Keller born July 19 1896 at Mink Creek died Tuesday in Mesa Arizona Funeral services set for tomorrow at 1 p m in Mesa Richards Funeral Home announced Keller was a longtime resident of the area and is survived by relatives in the community A funeral service will be held in Mesa tomorrow afternoon.
