Wideawake Youngsters Compete for New Bicycles in Election Week
The Preston Citizens subscription contest enters its final week with 17 boys and girls competing for six bicycles to be awarded on Saturday, Nov. 7. Remaining active is required for bicycle or cash prizes, with cash rewards set at 20 percent of each contestant’s turned-in funds. A special $10 premium offer from campaign manager Max Poulter is detailed on page two.

Preston Jaycees again host a big Halloween party for youngsters this Saturday at Central School to High School route, with a costume parade starting at 7 00 PM from Central School to the bank corner Second South and ending at the high school auditorium for a motion picture and treats. Two University of Idaho coeds from Preston hold office in residence halls Betty Ruth Westerberg president of Steel House and Karen Hinckley social chairman at Forney Hall.

Farrell Hyde Returns to Business After War Service
Don Nuttall and Farrell Hyde resume operations at Nuttall and Hyde Heating Co. after a two year separation due to Hyde's army service in Korea. They promise quicker furnace installation and repair from their shop at 57 North State Street in the rear of Godfrey Hardplate. Hyde reports 15 months on the front with no serious injuries.

Shannon Nash, 11, of Franklin won first place in the Rural Youth talent final for Farm Bureau at Grace Oct. 24. The event, hosted by the Associated Women of the Farm Bureau for six counties, also recognized Kay Fellows in talk meet, Marilyn Nash with an interpretative dance, and Karen Tingey with a piano solo. Back to School Night Held at High School
Monday evening parents of high school students attended a back to school night to meet teachers and discuss issues. The group gathered in the auditorium at 7 30 p m then visited their child’s classes. Refreshments with a Halloween themed table followed the sessions.

Local Mechanic Injured After Shotgun Accident
Farrell Larson a 32 year old lead mechanic at McCune Garage was badly hurt when a shotgun discharged as he slipped while preparing to drive to Lewiston for a service call. The blast damaged muscles nerves skin and bone in his left elbow arm and doctors warned recovery could take weeks.
