Grade Schools to Stage First Spring Music Festival
About 600 students from the East Side grade schools will perform at the first spring music festival this weekend. The event, directed by Lyle Shipley, takes place Friday night at Preston High School gymnasium and showcases songs from the district’s new music program with participants from Jefferson Whitney and Franklin schools.

Annual Baugh and Pack Cup Vocal and Instrumental Contest
The annual Baugh Cup and Pack Cup will be held May 13 at Preston High School auditorium. Carl Hoffman, Preston High School music director, says the competition starts at 7 30 PM. First place will go to the top senior vocal soloist and top instrumental soloist, with a second place for the top junior in each category.

Cemetery Flowers Policy Relaxed at Preston Cemetery
Preston cemetery district commissioners suspended the appeal on artificial flowers and allow them from May 29 to June 2. All previously prohibited materials must be removed by June 3 to resume mowing, due to maintenance interference and the need for a presentable grounds.

Cub River Road Cleared After Snow Slide Blocked Route
City crews and US Forestry workers blasted and scooped snow debris to reopen Cub River Road near the Ranger Station after a three-part slide that had blocked the way. Roland Hull led blasting operations with city help and noted past fatal slides in the same area. The event prompted inspection of the headwater water supply and repairs as needed. West Side FFA soil judging team placed second in the Southeast Idaho contest. members were Ted Stewart Steven Smart and Rodney Fonnesbeck with Stewart tying for high man.

School Filing Deadline Approaches Friday For Board Seats
The filing deadline for school board petitions is Friday at 6 p.m. Two seats are open. One nominee so far is Phenoine Sport for Preston West Side on State Street. Edgley will not seek reelection after six years on the board. Dean Smith currently holds the other seat.

Date Set For Annual Grassman Contest
The Grassman of the Year contest committee met at Pop N Pins to plan the Grassman program and announce the 1965 contest. Applications are available at the Preston Chamber of Commerce and the County Agent’s office, due by June 1, with entry open to all and nominations welcome. The June 14 tour and luncheon will be sponsored by the Preston Chamber of Commerce as a Farm City activity, with judges including the past three Grassman winners Theo Smith, Ottis Colen Whitney, and Von Atkinson.

Franklin District Boy Scout Camporee Planned For May 21 22
The 1965 Franklin District Boy Scout Camporee is scheduled for May 21 22 with Patrols and Troops camping from Friday after school to Saturday afternoon at Mink Creek Ball Park. A campfire court of honor will conclude Friday night as Guide Scouts Scouts and Explorers receive Second Class First Class Star and Life awards. The District Advancement Chairman F H Winward directs the event with a District Board of Interview set for May 13 at 7 30 p m in the Preston Second Ward Chapel for Star Life and Eagle awards, the final interview before the Court of Honor on Rantel.
