The annual Easter egg hunt, sponsored by Preston Jaycees and the chamber of commerce, will be held Saturday, March 28, in the city park starting at 9 a.m. Children up to age 12 join three age group hunts with designated park sections for each group. Douglas Campbell chairs the event.
Cache Valley Livestock Auction Co of Preston receives a Nationally Certified Livestock Auction Market certificate from the National Association of Livestock Auction Markets. The designation marks markets meeting the national code of business standards for operations and services.
Franklin County's J. Reid Hoggan, Idaho's young Democratic senator, returns from his first legislative session with strong praise as outstanding. Political editor John Corlett notes Hoggan as a rising figure, possibly gubernatorial material and a potential future candidate for higher office, including the U S Senate or House.
Preston girls Judith Nash Donna Marie Casperson Suzzane Greaves and Cheryl Geddes won first place in the girls division at the district debate meet held in Pontello Tuesday. Their record was averaged for the team. Preston boys Kay Cherrington Brent Robinson Norman Nelson and Lee Mink placed third and will also advance to the regional meet in Idaho Falls on March 24 and 25.
Pvt Henry G Egbert of company C second battle group first brigade, son of Mr and Mrs Henry D Egbert of Preston, is in the first cycle of basic training at Fort Ord California. He learns first aid dismounted drill map reading rifle marksmanship and infantry basics. After basic he may take advanced infantry training or a specialized course. He attended Preston High School before entering service.

Four Fish and Game officials were elected Saturday night at the annual Fish and Game Jam boree. Willard Wanner district one Jack Moser district four Martell Thomas district five and Russell Westerberg district six were elected. A. L. Snowy Stocks president Clifford Whitehead vice president Orval Moser secretary and directors Lamar Oliverson Bruce Lowe Theron Smith are holdovers. A large crowd attended the annual affair.
Franklin Stake won the attendance award at this year’s University of Scouting in the Utah State University Union, bringing 70 attendees and earning a buckskin trophy for the third year straight. The event featured displays from five scout expositions in Cache Valley Council and included guest greetings from a British consulate representative, with speaker Carl W. Buehner and others highlighting scouting values and training opportunities.
Mr and Mrs H R Bingham returned Friday from a nearly two month trip to Arizona. They visited their son Lyman in Casa Grande attended Sunday school where they met Les and Ava Jones and saw relatives in Douglas Mesa and Phoenix with the Petterberg family and Joyce Tanner on LDS mission. They ended with the Bingham family reunion Friday.
Chief Don Bergquist warns residents that dogs running loose at night may be shot if caught. He urges owners to license dogs and keep them penned at night to prevent property damage and police distractions.
The Holstein Friesian Association of America reports finished official production records for registered Holstein cows. F M Mickelson Grace Trout Creek Blossom produced 15 258 pounds of milk and 524 pounds butterfat in 342 days. Preston Uniform Royal Own Princess produced 12 415 pounds milk and 403 pounds butterfat in 300 days. University of Idaho and national Holstein oversee HK Herd Improvement Registry testing for lactation and yield predictions.
Aviation electronics technician first class Norman Y Jorgensen, USN, son of Mr and Mrs Victor Jorgensen of Preston and husband of Jessie Baker of Omaha, returned to North Island Naval Air Station San Diego March 1 with patrol squadron 46 after six months at Sangley Point Philippines. The squadron flew Martin Marlin seaplanes conducting anti submarine warfare and shipping reconnaissance near Japan Okinawa Formosa and Hong Kong.
The notice lists dates March 26 and 27 for the annual baseball tournament in Preston. Teams from the valley will compete for prizes and trophies in the new gym starting at 6:30 PM.
William D Wright of Franklin notes a big week with Drury Lane Cola Inka Uniform sold for 3000 to the Iowa Breeders Cooperative in Des Moines. The artificial breeders unit serves a large Midwest area and seven daughters average 83 points in classification with over 500 pounds butterfat as mature cows. The bull has won grand championships seven times.
Franklin county Republican chairman PB Edgley met with H Fred Garrett in Boise to discuss preserving the seasonal agricultural placement office in Preston. Garrett confirms budget fixes allow continued service with David Sutton continuing as Preston’s agricultural placement representative.
The Preston FFA chapter will have delegates at the Idaho state convention in Boise next week. Stephen Mezix and Brent Gamble will be awarded state farmer degrees Friday March 27 for leadership and farming program work. The event features officer training, public speaking, parliamentary contest, and election of officers for the coming year.
Dairymen in Franklin elect William D. Wright as president of the Franklin County Holsteins Breeders Assn during the annual meeting at the Franklin cafe banquet room. Blaine Porter is named vice president and Elmo Beckstead secretary treasurer. Bill Welch and state officers attended as cattle for the Idaho state Holstein sale were selected from local herds. Activities for 1958 include official testing, a field day with a 4 H dairy event, and participation in the Idaho 4 H short course with four members, plus county herd movements to Marsh Valley Franklin Connery and Eastern Idaho State Falls.
