County Schools Shine At Fifth District Declamation Festival
Thirteen schools and 93 students competed in the fifth district festival at West Side High School. Events included memorized oratory, extemporaneous speaking, panel discussion, original oratory, dramatic reading, humorous reading, original essay, poetry, retold story, after dinner speech, radio drama and radio speaking. Nineteen students earned good or better ratings with West Side High School posting five superior and four excellent results.

The annual Franklin County Cancer Society training school will be held at the Elks lodge in Preston this Saturday. Local workers will include Mrs. H. B. Allen and state and district leaders from Boise andMontpelier. Morning talks by Dr. Cutler and Dr. Smith precede certificate presentations to long time volunteers. At 2 p.m. the public may view films including Man Alive Self-Examination of the Breast and Living Insurance. About 25 captains met March 13 to brief ward and community leaders on duties during the training course.

Dareth Balls and Leland Howell, senior West Side High students and Latter day Saints, faced polio with courage. Dareth, contracted Sept 1951, endured paralysis and long hospital care but remains active as a photographer, trumpet player, and singer. Leland, struck Oct 1, 1951, with leg paralysis, wore a brace, returned to school in December, and participates in pep band and public events while continuing recovery.

Cattlemen Groups Hold Annual Sessions Elect Officers
On March 16 and 17 the Mink Creek and Cherryville Stockmen's associations held annual meetings to elect officers for 1953 and discuss grazing of members cattle on national forest land.
