The San Francisco Bay area welcomed 43 ships and a U S Navy task force for a three day stay headed by Rear Admiral Maurice E Curts. The group forms the largest Pacific fleet exercise since World War II with 29 San Diego ships 21 from Long Beach and two from Pearl Harbor plus cruisers destroyers carriers submarines amphibious and mine warfare vessels. The killer submarine USS Bream carried Mrs Mary Radford and Mrs Joan Radford aboard during the visit.
