District Y Tourney Opens In Pocatello Tonight
The District Y tournament begins tonight in the Pocatello high school gym with West Side versus Malad at 5 30 p.m. Other games include Preston versus Snake River at 7 p.m. Downey versus Montpelier at 8 30 p.m. and Pocatello versus Blackfoot in the final. Friday features a West Side Malad rematch at 8 30 p.m. and Thursday games determine Saturday possibilities. Reserve seats are available via school offices.

Beckstead Joins Fourth Regimental Combat Team in Alaska

Mrs. Frank J. Gilbert has been appointed chairman of the judging committee for the Idaho mothers for southeastern Idaho. The panel includes Mrs. John Rast of American Falls Lloyd P. The city fire department was called at 8 20 Thursday morning to Preston Bassett’s home. The water heater cover caught fire but damage was limited to about 50 dollars with a prompt extinguishment.

Edward Kofoed Dies at 73 in Lava Hot Springs Home
Edward Kofoed, 73, of Preston and former Weston resident, died Thursday morning at a lava hot springs rest home after a three month illness. Born February 13, 1880 in Weston to Anker and Ella Jensen Kofoed, he married Rosa Simon in 1920 in Pocatello. He had lived in Preston six years, previously in Cornish Utah and Weston, and was an LDS church member and former missionary. Survivors include siblings Minnie Taylor, Clara Rich, Ida Kofoed, Clarence Kofoed, George Kofoed, and Ada Bingham. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Preston Second Ward.
