A lengthy wet period drenched Franklin County with more rain than normal, keeping skies cloudy for days. The Franklin County Sugar Company records show May and June totals above normal, though May felt unusually dry for farmers whose thriving fields now benefit from the moisture and promise bumper yields come harvest time.
Idaho Elks to elect fifth vice president at their State Association convention in Moscow. Clifford Wart attended. delegates from Preston lodge were Robert Fulton and Newell Stephens. Fulton reported a golf tourney second place in B-division. both local men flew from Pocatello to Moscow and returned Sunday.
The Red Cross begins swimming lessons for Preston youngsters with both boys and girls eligible. Transportation from Logan is provided via the Red Cross. Registration forms are available at Mandy Drug Store in Franklin. A schedule change moves ages 8 to 9 to Mondays at 8 30 a.m. and Thursdays at 1 p.m. Ages 10 to 12 with certificates meet Mondays and Wednesdays afternoons. 10 to 12 without certificates meet Tuesdays and Thursdays afternoons. ages 13 to 15 attend Wednesdays mornings and Fridays afternoons.
A veteran Army engineer with nineteen months overseas duty and years in service station work takes over the Idaho Refining Co service station at the corner of First South and Sta ele streets. Randall, living in Preston, brings experience to the management shift following a change by management this week.

Event at LDS meetinghouse begins 11 a.m. and features community performers and entertainment. Ronald W. Smith enjoys a thirty day furlough with parents and sister Dan Swainston.
The Franklin County Poultry Association ladies auxiliary with about 350 members invites poultry raisers to a June 1999 meeting at the county courthouse basement rooms from 3 to 5 PM. Auxiliary members will discuss current business and be entertained with a social program and discussion to follow.

Alan Keller, also Preston High alumni, is en route to Willits California for his mission after Guam service.
The American Legion and Jaycees announce a patriotic meeting at Oneida High School auditorium starting at 11 am. Principal speaker Phenoi HW Edgley will address the audience with a color guard opening, music by the high school band, opening prayer, chorus performance, and a five minute welcome from Mayor Page.

Red Cross members are invited to a Monday evening meeting at the courthouse to elect a new board of directors for the Franklin County chapter. Present officers expect a large attendance.
Mrs Bergquist of Glencoe hosts a farewell testimonial in the Glencoe ward for Son Yat Allen. The gathering honors a mission farewell as Mrs Bergquist prepares for Salt Lake City and a Western States mission assignment.
