Softball Standings and Week’s Results

In the league two teams remain tied for lead after at least two games. Franklin and Rotary each have one win and one loss, Lions are 1-2, while Carpenters and Elks sit at 0-2. Religious instruction guides Oneida stake quarterly conference

James B. reports Elder Joseph Fielding Smith and twelve apostles spoke at the event. Church authorities presented guidance on using surplus to relieve debt and aid the needy. Music was provided by Preston High School students under Lyle Shipley. Visiting officials inspected the welfare farm.

Mission: Danish reminiscences of Ernest Jensen

A Danish Mission memoir notes Ernest Jensen fell into the mission period around 1910 to 1910. The farewell party is set for June 20 at 7 30 p.m. in the ward chapel. Friends and former Prestont high school classmates are invited. Jensen graduated in 1947 and participated in chorus and dramatics. He attended the LDS Seminary. Continued on Page 8.

Downey accident injures two workers on grain elevator project

John E Viehweg 64 of Slayton suffered leg fractures after a crane elevator tipped when a chain slipped at the Downey Grain Growers Assoc site. Eugene Williams also fell about 25 feet but survived. Welders Ollie Mark and William Binggeli avoided falls. Viehweg, born November 25 1893 in Banida, was married to Ethel Loomis and is survived by two sons and a daughter.

Glencoe Farewell Party Planned for Elder Bergquist

Glencoe residents prepare a farewell for Elder Bergquist at the ward chapel Friday evening. Wheeler's orchestra will provide music for dancing after talks and a program. Allen, a Glencoe farmer, leaves Monday for Salt Lake City to begin Western States Mission duties.

Pedestrian Injured When Cars Collide Near Here

A 7 year old pedestrian Harry Covey was hospitalized with concussion and cuts after a two car crash around 11 pm near here. Vehicles from Jack Hadley Preston and George Dalton Grate were involved. Covey was found unconscious on the pavement and remains not in serious condition apart from shock.

Commencement at Illinois Honors 78 Doctors and 451 Degrees

The 71st annual commencement at the University of Illinois in Urbana held June 19 and 20 awarded 78 doctor of philosophy degrees along with 451 master and professional degrees. More than 2,100 candidates from undergraduate colleges and schools were to be conferred degrees.

Rural subscribers in Preston exchange grew by 146 as Mountain States Telephone & Telegraph advances rural service program. Robert Fulton notes miles of poles and wire required, with 1400 rural orders held for June 1. Postwar plan to extend service aims at three to five years amid supply shortages and growing demand.

Beackstead Burned In Gas Explosion At Preston Cabin

Mr Beckstead suffered serious burns to face arms and hands in a gas line leak explosion at a Preston cabin while attempting to light a water heater. He, Woytko a co traveler, and two couples spent the night there awaiting transport as hospital care followed. Mr Beckstead is employed by Preston Lumber Co.

Logan Station Raises Power and Dial Change

KVNU in Logan will become a regional station with power increased from 250 to 1000 watts and a dial change from 1230 to 610 on Sunday. The inaugural program at 6 pm will feature Preston's all girl chorus directed by Mrs Elda Carlson. Reed Bullen, general manager, notes the 1940s-era upgrade cost over 40000 dollars and marks a major milestone for the station.

Entomologist To Conclude Trip With Idaho Meeting

County Agent Dan Roberts announced a statewide tour ending with a Preston Idaho session. Dr C S Manis of the University of Idaho will discuss insecticides and insect control, answer questions, and share observations from demonstrations across Idaho. The gathering is open to all interested in the field.

West Side Pupils Begin Swimming Lessons at Downata

West Side High School will send third through sixth graders to Downata for Wednesday afternoon swimming lessons and return by bus. Seventh through 12th graders will train Thursdays after noon. Parents are urged to contact Mr. Crowton to enroll.

Local Parade Entries Invite Youth Groups and Scouts

The notice invites children under 16 to enter float, bicycle, wagon, and doll buggy categories in a parade with prizes.
