Seven County School District Consolidation Vote Planned
Qualified electors in seven Franklin county districts will vote Friday June 22 on uniting eight districts into Joint School District No 1 of Franklin and Bannock counties. The plan aims to build a suitable plant, unify finances, and provide greater facilities for about 600 students over roughly 143 square miles with $2.5 million assessed valuation.

Beets Thinned In Franklin County Sugar Crop
The beet crop in Franklin county is about 75 percent thinned, says Jed Lewis of the Franklin County Sugar Company. Acreage should be finished by next weekend as rain delayed start. Weeds were heavy but crop looks good, aided by P W labor and improving German workers. Cooperation from students and all workers is needed to finish thinning.

Zimmerly Air Lines to Open Service in Idaho
Mayor Edwin Crockett Weldon Nash and Bruce Wallace will dedicate the Zimmerly Air Lines formal opening in Pocatello on Saturday June 23. The service, Idaho’s first true airline, will operate between Pocatello and Coeur d Alene with stops at Twin Falls Boise Lewiston and other intermediate points.

Meat Subsidy For Feeders In Franklin County Idaho
Franklin county cattle feeders may apply at the county AAA office for a beef production payment of 50 cents per hundredweight on good and choice cattle weighing 800 pounds or more sold to a licensed slaughterer at or above the Idaho minimum stabiliz ation price. Eligible feeders must own cattle 30 days before sale and certify weights and prices. Payments are funded by the Commodity Credit Corporation.

City Summer Recreation Program Under Way for Children
The City Summer Recreation Program opens for ages five to twelve with craft work in the City Library basement from 9:30 to 10:30, supervised games in the Park and Opera House from 10:30 to 11:00, activities for smaller children 1:00 to 2:00, and more crafts 2:00 to 3:00 with additional supervised games 3:00 to 4:00. Girls craft pillows, boys make wooden plaques, and younger children create hot pads.

Weston WAC Becomes First Overseas Veteran Discharged
Est her M Lannan daughter of Mr and Mrs James J Lannan of Weston becomes the first WAC from the Mediterranean theater discharged under the adjusted service rating plan at Fort Douglas Utah. She served 19 months with the Signal Corps in Algiers Casablanca and Naples and wore the Rome Arno campaign ribbon WAAC and European theater ribbons. She entered the Army July 1943 and shipped overseas October 1943 with the 190th Signal Company, lived in a convent in Naples during air raids, and viewed the war from the Allied Force HQ in Algiers. Her brother Pfc James T Lannan was killed in action in Iwo Jima.

Members of the Franklin County wool pool set Friday July 6 as the shipping date for local wool. Bad weather and shearer shortages forced the date move from June 16, county agent Daniel Roberts reports. The group voted to charge 10 cents per fleece for preregatory animal control and noted many losses of lambs to coyotes.

Clifton Plans July Fourth Celebration With Parade and Sports

Rhea Griffeths of Weston was named county bond queen at the Idaho Pioneer Day rally in Franklin. Fannie Reeder of Treasureton and LuGene Hobbs of Franklin were first and second attendants. Gov. Gossett crowned the queen. 21 girls entered the contest. Bond sales reached $12,200 in the afternoon rally amid speeches, a pioneer dinner, band, sports, and a large evening dance.
