Teenager Subscription Contest Second Prize Promised

The Preston Citizen announces a Teenager subscription contest offering a $250 cash prize on July 19 plus grand prizes and 10 percent commissions. Open to school age children in Franklin County, it runs four weeks with active reporters on Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays. Participants may report by telephone or mail and registrations are taken at the Citizen office.

Utah Power plans 1.27 million expansion in 1952 southeast Idaho area

Utah Power and Light Co announces a 1.27 million construction program for 1952 as part of a 70 million five year expansion to serve southeast Idaho and northeast Utah. Projects include new lines, a 75 000 kilowatt Gadsby plant addition, and a gas pipeline upgrade in Grace. The goal is to meet rising electrical demand and support industrial growth in the region.

Daughters of Pioneers Schedule Convention

The Franklin County DUP will hold its convention in Preston on June 27 with an all day program. Friday starts with the Dayton monument dedication at 10 am, followed by a 1 pm luncheon in the courthouse recreation hall and a meeting featuring Kate B. Carter, president of the central camp, as guest speaker.

Pioneer Celebration in Franklin Idaho Declared a Success

The Franklin Idaho Pioneer day event concluded Saturday evening with wresting, a public meeting, a parade and ball game. Attendance was steady though not as high as some years. General chairman Leonard Butterworth thanked helpers and neighboring towns for parade support.

Candidates For Rodeo Queen Urged to Apply

Franklin county women are urged to enter the Preston night rodeo queen contest to be held July 31 and August 1 2. No age limit is set and contestants wear western attire for tryouts. A planning meeting was held with the rodeo committee to arrange the annual pageant.

Evan Sorenson organizes an adult swimming class to be held in the evenings Monday through Friday. A schedule is not yet set. Interested individuals should contact Sorenson to state preferred day and time for attendance.

Jorgensen Re elected President Of Rifle Club On 75th Birthday

Péte Jorgensen, longtime rifle club veteran, is chosen to lead the Pres ton Rifle Club for 1952 at a Deer Cliff Inn meeting and banquet. New officers include Don Pinson as vice president Andy Anderson as secretary and Lewis Bowers as range officer. Vic Jorgensen outgoing president chaired the event in a toast. Banquet diners chose chicken or trout.

Franklin County Missionaries Meet at Atlanta Conference

Missionaries from Franklin county of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints met in Atlanta Georgia for a mission wide conference. The gathering honored the memory of Joseph Standing a missionary killed near Dalton Georgia thirteen years ago. Loyal Hansen supplied the photo and notes detailing attendees and the dedication ceremony.

Franklin county appoints Crane as new commissioner

Franklin counties new commissioner is Mr Crane a former rancher from Mink Creek. He received formal confirmation of his appointment from Gov Len B Jordan replacing the late I M Evans who died May 30. Crane has lived in the county 42 years and owns a Mink Creek ranch. His term runs until January 1953.

Stake Young People Sing at MIA Conference

A caravan of about 30 autos carried 130 youths from Oneida stake to Salt Lake City to sing at the second session of the MIA conference. Crawford Gates introduced the hymn In Triumph, We Shall Sing with words by Ruth May Fox and music by Gates. The choir also performed Holy Lord God The Heavens Adore Thee and Good His Name under Robert Shipley.

Lorin M. Mendenhall Dies After Long Illness at 76

Lorin Mathew Mendenhall 76 died after a long illness Wednesday morning at Preston Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are set for 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Preston first ward LDS chapel with Bishop Ernest Eberhard Jr. presiding. Burial will follow in Franklin cemetery. Survivors include his widow Agnes Durrant, three sons, three daughters, 26 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, two siblings and numerous other relatives. He was active in LDS church work and had served missions in western and central states. He moved to Preston six years ago after farming in Dayton.

Woodward Receives Wyoming Master’s in Animal Production

Guy O. Woodward former Franklin County Sugar Co fieldman and University of Wyoming instructor earned a master’s degree in animal production at Wyoming’s 62nd commencement. He joined 314 graduates including 287 bachelor’s, 22 master’s, 2 professional, 3 doctor of education degrees. He is son of Ivan Woodward of Franklin.

State Officer Warns of Traffic Checks

Clive Lott the new state highway patrolman announced planned traffic checks within two weeks. Trucks will be stopped for registration gross weight plates and licenses while passenger cars will be checked for brakes lights windshield wipers horns and operator license. Violations will incur court citations.

New Chapel In Winder Ward To Be Dedicated

Bishop Gustave C. Hedin announces dedicatory services for the new Winder ward chapel set for Sunday June 22 at 7 30 with Pres J Reuben Clark leading. Open house 5 30 to time for services. brick veneer building includes chapel six classrooms kitchen and recreation hall built since Aug 1 1950 at about 75000. This is the first chapel in Winder since the ward was formed in 1907. Ward growth from 20 families to about 40 families and 240 members.

Hereford Calf Grand Champion At Salt Lake Show

Gale Moser fourteen year old son of Mr and Mrs Joseph Moser Whitney entered his eighteen month old Here ford calf in the Salt Lake City junior fat stock show held June four and five. Eleven boys were picked as top winners out of four hundred entries with the Moser lad taking grand champion honors and receiving a wristwatch as grand prize.
