Idaho Pioneer Day Celebration Plans and Events

The program for Idaho Pioneer Day shifts to June 15 and 16 with a parade at 2:30 PM, a cannon salute atop Little Mountain near Franklin, a flag ceremony, and a full day of sports, vaudeville, circus acts, and talks by Lieut. Gov. Donald Whitehead and Joseph Fielding Smith. Orville, billed as a circus performer, will debut in Idaho after touring Europe and the U.S.

Preston man pleads guilty to mistreating teenage girl

A 24-year-old married man and father pleaded guilty in court to a charge of mistreating a teenage girl after an incident reported to police. The act occurred around midnight Monday as the girl walked home from work on First South Street. He posted a $100 bond and was released, facing a $300 fine and six months in jail if convicted at sentencing. Police Chief Hull urged victims to report such incidents promptly, noting the city has been fortunate and such cases are rare in Preston.

Garth Monson to Leave for Missionary Service

Garth Monson, a sophomore at North Cache High School who moved to Richmond, will leave June 21 for the Texas Louisiana mission field. His mother is Mrs. Walter G Thompson. his father Alma Monson is deceased. A farewell program and dance follow the memorial service on Tuesday at the Richmond community building.

Dayle Dunkley Captures Reserve Championship at Salt Lake Show

Dayle Dunkley son of Lorin R Dunkley wins reserve championship at the Salt Lake Stock Show. Six local FFA boys exhibited ten steers earning four blue ribbons and two red ribbons in Colorado Wyoming competition. David Beckstead and others received honorable mentions for clean barns and sleeping quarters.

Silver Star to be awarded to local auto dealer

The presentation of the Silver Star for heroism will be made to Howard Bennett, local automobile dealer, at the American Legion meeting next Monday evening in the basement rooms of the Franklin county auditorium at 8 p m. Bennett was cited for heroism following a Japanese attack on Villa Lavella island on Oct 1, 1944, aiding evacuation of casualties and moving ammunition to prevent explosions while wounded by shrapnel. Veterans and friends are invited to attend.

Preschool Clinic Set for Dayton Building Monday

West End district sponsors a one day preschool clinic for first grade students and six year olds before Nov. Parents bring each child to the Dayton grade school at 8 30 am with towel or robe and immunization records. Two doctors a dentist and a nurse will conduct exams and preventive injections.

Garden Club Exhibition of Flowers at Penhey Store

The Garden Club plans a display of flowers grown by members led by President Harold Olson. Oneida Stake quarterly meeting to be held this weekend

The Oneida Stake quarterly conference will be represented by Elder Paul Cx Childs of the Twelve. Meetings for stake and local welfare workers begin Saturday at 6 30 p m in the fourth ward chapel followed by a priesthood readership session at 8 p m for quorum and ward leaders. Bank Robber Rudolph de Packh Seized After First National Heist

Rudolph B de Packh, a 87 year old former Marine and bank examiner, robbed the First National Bank of approximately 3860 dollars near Preston at about 1115 am escorted by Sheriff Lee Hansen and Deputy Ray Fackrell. He claimed no relatives and stated he had prior business in the East with a partner who allegedly dissipated all funds.
