The Franklin County Ladies posse will ride into Cub River Canyon next Tuesday June 17 starting at 9 a m. from the community camp. Members plan to meet partners and invite new riders to join. A forest service forester will accompany the group to give a trail description. Bring a lunch.

Potato Price Support Deadline Set for June 25
County ACA invites early and intermediate potato producers to apply for a certificate of eligibility by June 25. Applicants must declare the maximum qualifying quantity and pay a service fee of one cent per hundredweight, at least $3. Applications are filed at the Preston ACA office. Farmers with less than three acres and no acreage goals must notify the county committee by June 15 to enable acreage measurement before harvest.

Future Farmers Garner Prizes at Stock Show in Salt Lake
Fourteen Preston Future Farmers returned from Salt Lake City where they exhibited 20 beef animals at the Intermountain Junior Stock Show. Dayle Dunkley won grand champion Angus in the Future Farmer division, selling for 33 cents a pound. Doyle Dunkley also earned a blue ribbon with a steer selling at 26 cents. Preston entrants earned 6 blue, 11 red and 6 white ribbons. David Beckstead of Whitney won a beef calf award.

Lt Morris Petterborg was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in Los Angeles on April 28 for extraordinary achievement as co pilot of a land based patrol bomber. He aided in a bold strike near the Para mushiro straits on August 26 1944 against an oil tanker escort vessels and seven enemy fighters, assisted in repelling attackers and maintained control after the pilot was incapacitated amid hostile fire and rough weather.

A newly authorized Franklin County Board of Education will operate as an intermediary between the state board and local districts. Scholarship Award Given Boyd Whittle At Moscow Graduation
Boyd Whittle of Fairview, Idaho, graduate of the University of Idaho this spring, receives a $500 scholarship from the University Clinics. He earned a bachelor of science in agriculture and will work as assistant county agent at Sand Point this summer before entering Illinois University in September. Whittle, son of Mrs. Bertha Whittle, was elected to associate membership in the Idaho chapter of Sigma Xi. He completed high school at Preston and served nearly four years in the army as a first lieutenant. his final months were in Tokyo during the occupation of Japan.
