Help Needed At Packing Plant In Franklin
Plans are underway for the California Packing plant at Franklin to open around June 24. About 400 workers are needed during peak operations from opening day through late July to can 1600 acres of peas. 28000 Brook Trout Planted In Cub River By State
Ivan Goff announced that 28000 brook trout were placed in Cub River by the State Fish and Game Department last week. The fish were brought from a state hatchery and released at Willow Flats into the stream. A few weeks earlier 12000 trout weighing one to three pounds were placed in Bear River above Oneida by the same department. They were spawners.

Bergquist Receives Flying Cross for Meritorious Service
Sgt. Bergquist of Preston is awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross by Lt. General Kennedy for heroism in transporting supplies and evacuating the wounded from advancing fronts. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bergquist, a 1936 Preston High School graduate, who later trained as a radio technician before entering the Army Air Corps. His brothers Leon J. Bergquist serves in the Army Air Corps at Ajo, Ralph Bergquist in the Marines fighting in the Pacific.

Obituary notice for Wilford Smith aged 64. A prominent local businessman and church leader, he died at Memorial Hospital at 11 30 am Wednesday from heart trouble. Born August 8 1888 in Draper Utah, he held roles with Mountain States Implement Smith Motor Company and Farm Security, later serving as State Water Facility specialist. He married Terese Thomas in 1914 and served a mission 1909 1911.
