Beetle Control Successful In Cache Forest
The bark beetle insect control project in Cache National Forest near Bear Lake County, Stauffer Creek, completed this summer under Forest Supervisor Joel L. Frykman. Paris resident Angel Jay B. Hann reported 100 young lodgepole pines attacked. sprayed in late June with orthodichlorobenzene to kill beetles and larvae. The treated trees were salvaged by local rancher Miller. A check by Frykman Hann and Timber Management official W. L. Hobb found the insects died or will not survive the chemical. No new attacks were found in the area.

An 11 year old Franklin boy, son of Mr and Mrs Gerad Tiny Corbridge, was treated in a local hospital last week for a BB wound to the abdomen. He and his cousin from Salt Lake City were playing when pellets from the gun struck him. The pellets were removed and the boy returned home the next day not much the worse for the experience.

California Packing Plant Prepares to Start Canning Beans
Harvest and processing of the pea crop has ended and the California Packing corporation at the Franklin plant is ready to begin canning beans. One hundred fifty bean pickers are needed to gather the crop for processing. Crop quality is high and yields are strong. The 1952 Preston night rodeo opens after a parade and square dance jamboree near the courthouse. The Preston Lions Club organized the children's parade and Harold Allen led the jamboree as crowds gathered. Ray Skinner of Utah again produced the show with clown duo Gene and Bobby Clark and announcer Jack Oakie at the mike for a three night run starting with 6:30 parades and 8:00 grand entry. Five main events each evening include bronc riding bareback calf roping Brahma bull riding and bulldogging plus five special acts.

Boys Escape Injury As Car Rolls On Canyon Road
Four Franklin county youths escaped serious injury after a car rolled over nine miles from Preston on Cub River road. Dale Chatterton lost control hitting a soft shoulder causing the vehicle to skid 90 feet and plunge the embankment. Richard Hobbs was kept overnight for observation. Roland Smith Terry Hopson and the driver sustained bruises and cuts. A second collision near Preston involved Lila Gunderson driving from Riverdale at about 8 80 a.m. colliding with a side rake and tractor owned by Howard Bennett as she attempted to pass. Sheriff Lee Harisen investigated both wrecks.
