The high altitude branch experiment station field day, sponsored by the University of Idaho agricultural experiment station, will be at Tetonia on Tuesday July 8 starting at 10 am. Franklin county farmers are invited to see results of foundation seed planting tillage methods cropping practices and rotation studies. Farmers should bring lunch. A 10 am tour of station projects precedes a post lunch meeting for explanations and questions. County Agent Daniel Roberts invites all farmers to attend.

Five Mile erosion project reaches halfway mark
Thomas Heath announces L M Winsor reports the Five Mile erosion project more than half complete. Donations exceed 25000 from Cache valley individuals and firms fund the work. The main surge dam east of the Rene Johnson farm is two thirds in place and will hold about 100000 yards of soil pending pipe delivery. Completion hinges on pipe installation and site stabilization efforts.

Blood for Freedom Train Arrives in Preston Next Week
Next Monday and Tuesday the Union Pacific Blood for Freedom train will visit Preston. R. S. Fulton, chairman, aims to gather 300 donors with pledges signed by about 300 locals. Blood drawn 2 to 8 p.m. each day, five donors per 15 minutes, with four nurses aboard to collect and speed to armed forces.

Dean Bennett Wins First in FFA State Crop Judging
Dean Bennett of Winder won first place in the state Future Farmers of America crop judging contest at Moscow. Preston High School, with teammates Rodney Waterlaus and Eugenie Long, finished 3rd with 258.2 points as Bonneville and Meridian tied for first with 259.1. Forty-eight teams competed.

Clair Palmer Wins Special Award In Citizen Contest
Agness Elvira Durant Mendenhall 76 of 239 South First East St died Sunday after a two week illness. Born September 23 1875 in Franklin she was married to Lorin Mendenhall in 1897 in the Logan LDS temple. Her husband died about ten days ago. A lifelong Franklin resident she was active LDS, serving as Primary teacher secretary to the Y M M I A Oneida Stake Relief Society board organist in Franklin ward chorister in Dayton ward and long time Franklin county historian for the Daughters of the Utah.

George E Burgi dies after heart attack at 62
George E Burgi, a Preston insurance agent and longtime LDS church leader, died Saturday night of a heart attack while on a business call. He was 62. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Oneida stake house with burial in Preston cemetery. Born October 18, 1889 in Midway Utah, he served in numerous church roles including stake patriarch and stake presidency counselor.
