Cancer Drive Totals $1 966 36 in Local Campaign
Mrs H B Allen reports the annual cancer drive in Franklin County raised 1966 dollars and 36 cents through about 170 volunteers. Captains across wards list varied contributions with Preston district leading at 372 50, while many others donated amounts from 19 05 to 159 10. The drive supports cancer control efforts and education across civic groups and churches.

Farmers Invited To Demonstration In Irrigation
The Leon Nuffer farm near the Union Pacific depot in east Dayton will host an irrigation demonstration next Tuesday at 2 pm. The sugar beets field of 20 000 is the site to study pumping costs water division gates and equipment for best water use. Sponsored by University of Idaho extension soil conservation Utah Power and Light and local firms the event invites all irrigation farmers in Franklin County to attend.

Capt Frank Mockli to Camp Pendleton for Summer Duty
Captain Frank Mockli a volunteer reservist will report to Camp Pendleton California for summer active duty. He will assist in training and processing thousands of volunteer reserve units for two weeks of summer training. This marks the largest reservist influx since 1950. He teaches at Downey high school and works as an insurance agent in Long Beach. He is a 1942 Utah State graduate and USC 1947 with an MS. He joined the Marine Corps Reserve in 1943 after OCS Quantico and has two Purple Hearts.

Rodeo officials announced July 30 31 and August 1 as queen contest dates. The Preston Boots and Saddle Club will run the event with auditions in Western gear. contestants must register by July 12 with Wm Winn. Eighteen entered last year. more expected this year with judges from outside the county.

Riverdale Youth Narrowly Escapes Tractor Mishap
Dale Woolf a 16 year old of Riverdale survived a tractor rollover into a gully. The machine pinned him under the rear wheel as it spun. He crawled out with a fractured hip and pelvis, walked a quarter mile to near his home, and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Local Marksmen Take High Honors At State Shoot
Virgil Larson starred at the Idaho state big bore rifle matches in Buhl earning seven medals across the all competition and marksman classifications. He placed second in 200 yard rapid fire sitting and third in 300 yard rapid fire prone while also winning first in 200 yard rapid fire sitting and other marksman totals, though he did not win the overall shoot.

Utah Power plans large scale east Idaho growth
Utah Power and Light Co will invest nearly one million dollars in southeast Idaho and Cache Valley this year. Preston division manager Scotty Wendell says new and enlarged facilities, substations at Preston Amalga Montpelier and at Grace and Oneida hydro plants will boost electricity supply. A new Montpelier street lighting system and another at Paris are planned with more funding for equipment and services in the area. Two giant steam plant projects in Carbon county and Salt Lake City will add 100 000 kilowatts and 66 000 kilowatts respectively to capacity to meet rising demand.
