The year 1958 recorded 12.88 inches of precipitation, 3.44 inches below normal, with total moisture 16.32 inches and March the wettest month at 2.07 inches. Snow totaled 51.4 inches for the year, while mean temperature ran 2.9 degrees above normal.
Reid and Janell of A I Furniture Co and Frank and Faye Foss of Foss Furniture head to San Francisco with Reno and Las Vegas stops. Carlson Furniture closes next week. Reid Bosworth racks up sales, while Ethan and Kent appear in a photo. Preston Lumber Co advertises January sale as Emily Trent gains Salt Lake Tribune fame. Utah Power and Light offers rewards for info on damaged lines, punishable by fines and prison.
Carl A. Mortensen was chosen to succeed on the Franklin soil conservation district board of supervisors at the Jan 7 meeting. J Myron Fonnesbeck continues on the board since Jan 1 1955. Special events include a Feb 22 dinner with a SCS plant materials center speaker from Aberdeen and a tentative March 2 annual meeting. The district reviewed its 1959 workload analysis and operations plan and notes the district now owns a D 7 Caterpillar tractor a carry all scraper and a truck tractor for conservation work. Supervisors present were Stanton M Hawkes V D Smart and Cecil Foster with SCS conservationist Jack Kennard in attendance.
Judge John A Carver will preside over Franklin county fifth district court law and motion day. The calendar lists many civil cases with named plaintiffs and attorneys including Dell W. Smith Merrill and Merrill for the plaintiff and Louis F Racine Jr for the defendant among others.
Two Franklin youths aged 19 Bob Hobbs and Joe Miller escaped death or serious injury after a Cadillac rolled over and through the air 34 feet before stopping. Investigating officers cited speed and loss of control. The men were treated for facial cuts and bruises.
Franklin ASC county committee urges eligible producers to file price support applications by February 2 for the 1958 grain crop. Loan via warehouse receipts must be shown by then. purchase agreements can cover warehouse or farm stored grain until the deadline. March 1 is the cutoff for 1959 acreage allotment applications for new farms.

Mrs George Paull a seventy year old music teacher well known in Preston was found dead in her bathroom yesterday morning neighbors hadn t seen her for days. She lived at 62 North Second East Street and owned part of the Isis Theatre with her husband who died about fifteen years ago. Four sons survive including two in Salt Lake City and another on the west coast one a physician killed in an Idaho Falls car crash. Funeral services set for Saturday at 1 p m in Oneida stakehouse.
The 49th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America is celebrated during the week of Feb. 18 with events and a Scout Exposition in Franklin stakehouse next Monday. Tickets support local troops and posts.
Robert Neal, 23, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in district court Tuesday. Judge John A. Carver imposed an indeterminate term not to exceed seven years at hard labor in the Idaho state penitentiary. Richard Skinner received a $100 fine and 90 days in jail, with jail time suspended. Max J. Coburn’s negligent homicide case was delayed due to his attorney’s absence.
The Franklin County Fish and Game Association schedules a nomination meeting for next Monday in the chamber of commerce room. All fishermen and hunters are urged to attend as two directors will be elected and terms for Willard Warner and Hy McKay expire. Snowy Stocks remains president. Cliff Whitehead is vice president. Orval Mosere is secretary. current directors Martell Thomas Bruce Low ard Theron Smith will serve another year.
More than 100 Farm Bureau leaders gathered for a meeting at MEI to map the year's programs. Boise attorney Z Reed Millar was named speaker for Preston Lincoln Day banquet to be held Feb 12 at the Franklin County courthouse with George Allen as master of ceremonies. County Farm Bureau President Frank J Gilbert and others attended Pocatello meetings Jan 20 21 to support stronger county programs under Idaho Farm Bureau Federation President LB Martin.
