Roy E. Bendell Headlines Local Club Meeting

Roy E. Bendell a veteran platform speaker will be guest of honor at the Preston Knife and Fork club meeting next Wednesday at 7 30 p m in the Franklin county courthouse dining hall. Once a school teacher he chose to study American lives and orate about them to the nation. Bendell met James Whitcomb Riley which helped shape his lyceum career and he now recites much of Riley's poetry from memory.

USU Scholarship Gets Continuation From Carleson Family

A Salt Lake City family funds the fifth straight year of Utah State University scholarships for economics or business administration students. Harry J. Carleson and parents Harry E. and Vera presented $400 to Evan B. Murray, head of economics, for two students in the 1959 60 year. Gordon Beckstead of Preston and John Cragan of Ogden receive the aid.

Eastside Board Members Attend National School Boards Convention

Chairman Howard Swainston and board member Darrell Wold of Eastside School District No. 201 attended the National School Boards Association convention in San Francisco from January 25 to 29. They heard speakers including Adlai Stevenson, James Conant, Carl Munck, and John Hull, and viewed a school supplies exhibition at the Civic Center.

Funeral services held for Richard C Choules

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday for Richard Clark Choules 39 who died Sunday of pneumonia. Born July 21 1919 in Mapleton he was a Riverdale farmer and husband to Radia Morrison. Survivors include his wife, daughters Sharon Jeanette Nancy Marie and two brothers. The service was in Oneida stakehouse with Bishop Rex Packer officiating and grave dedication at Riverdale cemetery.

LDS Church Leaders to Speak at Franklin Stake Conference

Elder Mark E E Petersen and Elder Lorenzo H Hatch will headline the Franklin stake quarterly conference with general sessions Sunday at 10 am and 7 pm. A welfare meeting, priesthood leadership session, and detailed reports on quorums and missionary work accompany the event. Church membership exceeds 1.5 million with temples in New Zealand and England.

Airman Hunt Assigned to Mountain Home Base

Lagrand O. Hunt an airman third class has been assigned to the ninth installations squadron at Mountain Home Air Force Base. He is son of Mr. and Mrs. Dalton E. Hunt of Preston and a Preston High School graduate. He previously trained at Keesler AFB Mississippi. His duties include overseeing low pressure heating units and water and steam flow at the central heating plant. Airman Hunt and his wife Erma Kay were injured in a highway accident near Pocatello while visiting family.

Funeral Rites Held Saturday For Mrs Paull

Funeral services were held Saturday for Mrs Letitia Busby Paull in the Oneida stakehouse. She died recently at 71 and was a noted pianist and piano teacher in Preston and Cache Valley. Survivors include three sons, eight grandchildren, and siblings. The Logan cemetery grave was dedicated.

Senator Dworshak Requests Citizen Newspaper For Office

Senator Henry Dworshak asks that The Citizen be sent to his Washington office and requests local opinion letters. He notes the Idaho weeklies aid his work in Congress as the 86th Congress begins January 7 and calls for a subscription renewal or initiation for the next issue. He cites serious threats to the economy in his letter.

Boise Attorney To Be Speaker At Meeting Here

The Lincoln day banquet hosted by the Franklin county Young Republicans will feature Z Reed Millar, a Boise attorney and former prosecuting attorney of Bingham County, as the keynote speaker. Tickets are selling well as plans for the event proceed in the courthouse Thursday evening next week. Millar, born in American Fork Utah, is noted for his speaking ability and political and law enforcement work in Idaho.
