New Directors Named for Preston Chamber of Commerce

The Preston Chamber of Commerce announces four new board members Jared Lewis G W McCune Ray Bright and J Homer Johnson after January ballot voting alongside five holdovers. Retiring directors L V Merrill Stanton Hawkes Harley Greaves and Bruce Wallace. The board will meet next Monday to elect officers from among themselves.

Jensen Sponsors Family Party For Farmers At Isis Theatre

Judge Jensen announces a free afternoon program for farmers at the Isis theatre featuring vaudeville acts in the Flying High Revue. Marketing Group To Hold Convention Saturday Afternoon

The livestock marketing association will meet in annual convention this Saturday at 2 p.m. in the courthouse. Gaylord Larson, chairman, announces a special feature with hogs expert Wade discussing hog type finish and dressing percentage. Four hogs from the Jan 28 shipment will be slaughtered for demonstration, half of each hog cut into wholesale sections. Preston High Seniors Earn National Science Talent Mentions

Preston high school seniors Larry Kerr and Kenneth Olsen earned honorable mentions in the seventh annual National Science Talent Search. From 3,161 applicants, judges selected 205 boys and 55 girls for recognition based on science aptitude, projects, records, and teacher reports. Idaho contributed two of Preston’s honorees amid state totals led by New York and California.

Mrs Lucy C Pinson Dies Here After Short Illness

Mrs Lucy Cartwright Pinson 63 died at home Wednesday night after a brief illness. Born May 20 1884 in Newton England she came to the United States in 1904 and married Charles Pinson in Logan the same year. She resided in Preston 44 years and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. Surviving are her husband sons Harold Donald Eugene Pinson and Gladys Kimball and Eva Barrie among 15 grandchildren and three brothers Cartwright Harmer Gerald Frank. Funeral Monday at 1 pm in the first ward chapel with Bishop Ernest Eberhard Jr officiating burial in Preston cemetery.

Franklin County Fish and Game Banquet Sets Feb 5

Plans are underway for the annual Franklin County Fish and Game association banquet and officer elections. The event will be Thursday evening February 5 at the opera house. Nuffer Veteran World War I Veteran Dies in Preston

John Nuffer 59 a World War I veteran dies Tuesday at Patton Veterans Hospital California funeral services set Saturday at 1 p m in the ward chapel with Bishop Ernest Eberhard Sr officiating. He was born January 19 1888 in Preston son of John and Louisa Zollinger Nuffer. Surviving siblings include Luther Nuffer Agnes Hurst Louise Nuffer Florence Christensen Myron Nuffer Edwin Nuffer Athene Hampton and others. Burial in Webb-Hendricks Mortuary cemetery. Friends may call at the Adrian Hampton home Friday evening and Saturday until service time.

State Association Holds Two Day Rodeo and Fair Convention

Blind Preston Youth Shines With Courage and Perseverance

LaVon Peterson, a blind former Preston native, was named one of the 10 outstanding young men in the country by the Junior Chamber of Commerce. He supervises a radio school in Omaha, built from a childhood partnership with his brother Merlin to create radio sets and earn amateur licenses. They plan to connect their work as LaVon prepares new radio sets for operation back in cooperation with Merlin.
