Preston businessman and former mayor Bowden leaves the town after 18 years to take over as manager of the Idaho Falls branch of the First Security system. The five times larger bank employs about 43 people and ranks second to Boise in size. Bowden will return to Preston frequently to assist with local banking affairs.

County Budget Hearing Set as 1948 Plans Revealed

Mendenhall Dies Suddenly at Thatcher Home
William H. Mendenhall '94 a longtime resident of southern Idaho died suddenly about 12 20 p m Wednesday at his Thatcher home. He served Bannock county in the state legislature several terms and helped organize Thatcher high school and Gemmallee creamery. He married Naomi Herd in 1893 and had served as a church leader and school official for 27 years.

Harriet Carver 27 wife of Odell Carver of Treasureton is hospitalized with lacerations contusions and possible internal injuries after a head on collision on Highway 91 between 4th and 5th No State Street at about 1130 p.m. Vehicle driven by Carver carrying two sons was struck by a southbound truck driven by Jack Egbert Fairview. Egbert reportedly attempted to pass a truck. slick road prevented return to his lane. Carver treated and released after minor injuries.

Remains of Soldier Born in Thatcher Arrive Here
The remains of Sgt. Irwin J. Jonas born in Thatcher arrive from Europe under the repatriation program. Funeral services are planned in Richmond with graveside rites at Richmond Cemetery Friday afternoon. Jonas was killed at St Lo France on July 11 1944 and is survived by his mother Mrs Lillian C Jonas and numerous siblings.
