University Drama Presents Three One Act Plays at Borah Theatre

University of Idaho advanced drama students staged three one act plays by European authors at Borah theatre in the Student Union building Moscow January 13 14 and 15. Dennis Thompson son of Mr and Mrs Ivan Thompson of Weston appeared in On the High Road as part of the cast.

Annual John Deere Day At Pottsville Sponsored Show

The John Deere Day program, sponsored by Pres ton Implement Co and Arnold Sant, will be held Friday January 29 at Isis Theatre starting 1 30 pm. The program includes five educational films including The Safety Pin and The Job Ahead plus a John Deere equipment parade and refreshments at the store 27 North State Street. Farmers and families are invited to attend and visit the store for demonstrations and beverages.

Pack trophy contest set for tomorrow at Preston High

The first annual Pack instrumental trophy contest will be held tomorrow evening at 8 in the Preston High School auditorium. Open to high school students in strings reeds and brass, it is sponsored by Mr and Mrs Don Pack to promote instrumental music in Franklin County. Entry inquiries go to Lynn Bright. The concert is free to the public.

New Oldsmobile 1954 model on display at Cranney Chevrolet

The 1955 Oldsmobile model set to release in 1954 is showcased at Cranney Chevrolet in Cranney, inviting visitors to see the car created a year ahead of schedule. J F Wolfram notes the skip a year plan yields a radical redesign with the 88 and 98 series featuring a larger Rocket engine and new styling including wrap around windshield and sweeping fender lines. The 98 will appear later in February, while the first display focuses on the 88 and 98 line with enhanced performance and aesthetics.

Huge New Screen To Be Installed At Grand Theatre

The Grand theatre will close Monday and Tuesday for a large screen installation. Manager Elmor Nielson says the 15 by 30 foot panorama screen will premiere with Jack Slade next Wednesday and allow Cinemascope features like The Robe and Knights of the Round Table.

Tom Heath heads to Chicago hearings on sugar allotments

Idaho State Senator Tom Heath of Preston leaves Friday afternoon for Chicago to attend week long hearings on marketing allotments for all sugar companies. He says the industry produced more sugar in 1953 than the official quota by about 70 000 tons and will attend the first session Monday at the Congress Hotel. Heath is a Republican candidate for Idaho governor with strong party opposition noted by Boise reporters.

Malad Edges Preston In Hard Fought County Clash

Malad defeated Preston 56 to 54 on Oneida county court to snap Preston’s seven game win streak. Officials flagged 45 fouls, with Preston at 23 and Malad at 22, as a late Malad basket broke the deadlock to seal the win.

Leland Scarbrough Dies at 64 in Franklin

Leland F Scarbrough 64 lifelong Franklin resident died early Monday at home after a lingering illness. Born December 6, 1889 in Franklin to Joseph B and Ann Foster Scarbrough he married Lavon Birch of Willard Utah June 1 1943 in the Salt Lake temple. He operated a farm near Franklin and was an elder at his death. Survived by widow Miss Donnell Scarbrough of Ckdens sister Mrs Tressie Ralph of Franklin and brother Efrom F Scarbrough of Sebastopol California.

Polio Drive Aims Through Community Fundraisers

Campaigners under Quinten Crockett plan a house to house polio drive. Events include a talent show at Isis and a coffee day with local restaurants and bakeries donating proceeds. East Side District Considers Two High School Plans

Voters and parents hear proposals for expanding the East Side School district with two options. Plan I would build a new high school for grades 10 11 and 12 on seven acres south of Franklin stakehouse with grounds for sports and a 440 yard track, while Jefferson would house grades three to six with reduced enrollment and the current high school would become a junior high. Plan II adds a gym and several classrooms, with similar relocation of grades and space to ease crowding at Central, Jefferson, and the gymnasium.

Isis theatre manager in Rochester for clinical tests

Les Brown, manager of the Isis theatre in Rochester, is in Rochester Minnesota at Methodist hospital undergoing clinical tests for an undetermined ailment. Physicians are evaluating the need for possible surgery but Brown reports his condition has improved since arrival.
