The Preston chamber of commerce named new directors for the coming year. Fifteen candidates were elected to two year terms with four holdovers. Members of the Gem Valley Dairymen's Association gathered Monday evening at Thatcher for the first annual meeting and election of officers. About two hundred attended. Wesley Hubbard named president Roy Pond vice president Leslie Wright secretary. Willis Basset and Alfred Toone reelected as directors with Ira Hogan and Joe Clegg as holdovers. The session closed with a social and refreshments. Attendees from Freston included Weldon Nash Cleo Swengon and Ben Johnson.

Clarence Hurd Dies At Idaho Falls
Clarence Hurd of Franklin and Idaho Falls died January 10 at the L D S hospital in Idaho Falls. He was wife Myrtle Ames Hurd, six children, two brothers Wai K of Preston and Bob of Los Angeles, three sisters Rebecca Orison Oakland California Mrs Ron Rob inson Logan and Mrs George Robinson Preston survive. Funeral services were held in Idaho Falls Wednesday January 13.

Mr and Mrs A E Fuhriman of Franklin announced Wednesday that their son Sgt Royce Fuhriman is being held as a prisoner of war. The family had earlier learned he was missing but never gave up hope. He was serving in the Bataan area when captured.

In Logan Tuesday the Ghali Tieng Canning Crops association reelected officers for a new term at its annual meeting. W. Chambers of Smithfield was reelected president with Thomas O. Stokes of Preston as vice president J. W. Matkin Hyde Park secretary treasurer and Byron Snow Nibley and LaVar Doney Franklin Idaho named to the executive board. Directors endorsed the state association bean and pea price schedule for war board approval noting pea prices at 82 dollars per ton blue lake pole beans 90 and lima beans 120 with a push to harmonize Utah grading systems.

An explosion from a frozen water jacket and pipes in a kitchen stove at the E P Moser home caused severe wall and dwelling damage Tuesday. Firemen prevented spread. Mr and Mrs Moser had just moved and the Handy family narrowly escaped major harm while preparing to occupy the house.
Franklin County Bull Stud urged for war milk production
Extension dairyman G C Anderson from Boise spoke at a Franklin County Bull organization meeting on war time milk production. He noted US dairy cows average 179 pounds butterfat yearly yielding only about $12 over feed, while cows under the county improvement plan average 350 pounds butterfat and return $75 to $80 over feed. He praised Franklin County’s stud, with seven Holsteins producing over 500 pounds butterfat, some over 750, and urged dairymen to use these bulls for better herd profits.
