Department Uses Helicopters For Stocking Trout And Herding Antelope
Air Force helicopters aided the Idaho Department in two programs this fall. Over 300000 cutthroat and rainbow trout were planted from hatcheries to waters within 15 minutes, with birds released from about five feet. More than 100 antelope were herded into corrals for ear tagging using hovering flight. A University of Idaho study on magpies found nest predation did not reduce pheasant numbers, as hens shifted to better habitats and produced more broods.
