Sugar beet contracts set for 1953 Franklin County growers
Directors of the Franklin County Beet Growers association and the Franklin County Sugar company met on Wednesday December 31 to settle 1953 beet contracts. Contracts will be printed and circulated by field men. The sugar company aims to expand beet acreage for 1953. 1952 saw the plant operate only 23 days, affecting farmers and local institutions. Beets from 1951 paid $14.26 per ton. 1952 beets expected to be worth about the same or more. Company official Thomas Heath urged early acreage declarations and cooperation to secure nitrogen fertilizer. Recommend 200 to 300 pounds of 33 percent nitrate per acre, applied in spring with seed bed prep.

Mrs Eva Critser wife of C E Critser of Oxford died Sunday morning at 6 am after a long illness. The Critsers had lived in Oxford since 1928. She worked for the railroad as depot agent in Oxford.

Raymond Lamoreaux Dies in Blackfoot
Raymond Lamoreaux aged 46 died Monday in a Blackfoot hospital after a major operation. Born September 17, 1906 in Preston he was a painter and decorator and an ice skating instructor. Survivors include Orell Lamoreaux Lucille O Wolford Helen Palmer Virgil Lamoreaux Marious Lamoreaux and Elliot Lamoreaux. Funeral services were held today at 2 p.m. in the Preston second ward chapel with burial in Preston cemetery.

Chief of Police Dale Alfred urged parents to warn children not to walk in the streets on the way home from school. He cited many complaints from drivers about youngsters in the street, noting icy conditions make it dangerous and some youths force drivers to swerve to avoid them.

Fire damages Winder home likely from oil stove
Firefighters were summoned Friday at 3 15 am to the basement home of Mr and Mrs W O Winger in Winder. The family were not living there at the time. An oil stove apparently caused the blaze. Estimated damage stood at 1500 dollars.

Local Couple Die in Ogden Shooting Tragedy
A Monday morning shooting in Ogden left Mrs. Helen Venus Skinner Simpson 30 dead from a .22 firearm in her estranged husband Harold Nephi Simpson 31 who then killed himself. The couple’s two children survived as George Bell and relatives escaped the home after a confrontation with the deranged shooter.

Injuries Develop For Geddes Youth In Crash
Adrian Geddes son of Roy and Mrs Geddes sustained more severe injuries than first believed after a December 29 auto crash that killed Mrs Anna Moser Dahle. X rays showed crushed vertebrae, a cast was applied, and he remains in pain at home. Merlin Anderson, son of Dr, also injured, is recovering after facial and leg stitches.
