First traffic fatality hits Franklin county highway
A fatal crash near Preston on the Franklin county line claimed the life of 37 year old Mrs Anna Desable of Weston. A 1950 Ford coupe driven by Mrs Desable collided head on with a 1951 Diamond T truck driven by Adrian Geddes 16 of Richmond Utah. Geddes and passenger Merlin Anderson 16 of Franklin survived with injuries. Investigating officers cited excessive speed and a possible brake failure as factors. Mrs Desable leaves a husband Lester and two sons Larry and Max of Weston along with her parents and several siblings. Burial is set in Logan cemetery.

Preston chamber announces four new directors
Four new directors of the Preston chamber of commerce were elected by members and announced by secretary Miss Phyllis Homer. The new directors are R. C Afleck Merlin Smith Herman Richards and Arnold Sant. Holdover directors include March Hopkins Phil West Earl Nelson Ariel Neeley and Keith Christensen. The group will elect a president and vice president at the next meeting and introduce all officers at the annual membership dinner on Monday evening January 19 1953.

The Preston High basketball team extended its winning streak to six by defeating local rivals 56 to 36. Ivan Davis led scoring, opening with early points as the tribe surged to a 19 to 6 first-quarter lead and never trailed. Kay Warner DeLyle Condie DeVerl Herzog and Fred Shaffer started, with all players seeing action. Davis fouled out late, while Rawlings added nine and Hoge 13. The junior varsity lost 33 to 81 as the squad heads to Salt Lake City to face West High.
