Nine Inducted and Fifteen Examined in Franklin County

Armed services plan to call up about 50 000 to replace discharged personnel. Franklin county posted a January quota of nine men left last week for induction, with 15 more pre induction physicals conducted. Farm Institute Set for Feb. 2

The Franklin County Farm Bureau educational institute is planned for February 2 at Franklin Stake House. Featured speakers include Adam S Bennion Louis I Madsen and Howard Roylance with home economics demonstrations and farm budgeting guidance.

Rotary Leader Robinson Elected Preston Club President

D Duke Robinson manager of the J C Penney Co store was elected president of the Preston Rotary Club to succeed Dr R L Smith. He will take office in the spring. David E Davis was elected vice president and George Egbert was chosen secretary while Lloyd Hogge is treasurer. Ray Bright and William P Shumway join the board of directors.

Cranney Chevrolet Co hosted a three day display drawing hundreds to view the 1953 models. Russell G Cranney said the public quickly showed strong interest in the Bel Air and new Oldsmobile lines amid brisk visitor turnout at the Friday Saturday event.

Franklin county Education Board Elects Trustees

The Franklin county education board reorganized at a courthouse meeting Monday evening with Superintendent Elvin Cutler. Trustees Lavor Doney and Ben Meek were chosen or re-elected to serve. other board members listed include J Homer Johnson Elden Bastian Weston and Orson Kofoed Clifton.

Oneida Conference Set to Start This Weekend

The Oneida stake quarterly conference will be held at the stake house Saturday and Sunday with Walter Dansie of the general church welfare committee presiding. Events include a Saturday 6:30 p.m. welfare meeting, an 8:00 p.m. priesthood leaders gathering, Sunday sessions at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., and an 7:30 p.m. MIA meeting led by Willis Burton and Linda Peterson. The theme is Be thou an example of the believers with talks by returned missionaries and young people and special musical numbers. Public invited.

Franklin County Officials Installed In Monday Ceremony

A new county administration took office Monday in Franklin County with four new names. Sheriff Ray Talbot and County Attorney Dell Smith were sworn in for the first time along with Commissioner William E. Crane beginning a full term after serving by appointment. Lucy Tanner filled the late Emma Davis’s vacancy and began a new term.

Preston chamber to install new officers at annual dinner

The Preston Chamber of Commerce will hold an annual dinner at the courthouse dining rooms Monday evening. The program includes a 1952 financial report, a summary of accomplishments, an outgoing president’s speech, and installation of the new president Philip West and new directors and officers. Robert S. Howard, publisher of the Idaho State Journal, will be the principal speaker.

Wounded Banida Farmer in Salt Lake City Hospital

John Sparks was shot in the chin at his Sparks home and seriously wounded. The 8 mm Mauser bullet shattered his jaw as Mrs. Sparks alerted Sheriff Ray Talbot and Dr. David Cutler. He received treatment, then was moved to Salt Lake City where he was reported to be doing well.

Forty Americans Killed In Idaho Mountain Crash

A C 246 aircraft carrying 40 men including 37 Korean War veterans was found wrecked in Idaho’s Franklin County east of Malad City after a weeklong search. All aboard were killed instantly. wreckage scattered across snowbound terrain, with recovery delayed until spring thaws. Local officials and volunteers conducted exhaustive air searches. Sam Merrill credited with eventual discovery and thanked community helpers and the Ellis organization for meals.

Stake Music Clinic Starts Monday in Franklin Stake House

The two stake music clinic for ward organists and choristers begins Monday evening at 7 30 in the Franklin stake house. William Foxley of the McCune School of Music in Salt Lake City will conduct the classes for 12 weeks. Arrangements for the sessions will be made next Monday evening.
