Earl Gilbert, 28, of Preston was found guilty of burglary in the first degree by a district court jury after four hours deliberation. The verdict announced at 6 p.m. and sentencing set for Friday. Japanese Main Source Of Labor For Franklin Crops
Franklin county farmers heard that Japanese labor could bolster crops this spring. Farm officials from Oneida county, Farm Security, and the U S Employment service outlined arrangements to bring in Japanese workers interned in western camps, with costs largely covered by the Farm Security administration. A county survey will determine needs, with about 300 workers expected for full time work and harvest periods, and wage levels likely rising.

Franklin county residents must register for the food rationing program starting Tuesday February 23 with registration overseen by Supt. R J Bjorkman for Preston city and Supt Welland Smith for rural areas. Registration times run 4 30 to 10 PM February 23 24 25 and the rural locations to be announced by each school. War Price and Rationing Board chair Earl Goaslind said rationing of canned bottled frozen fruits vegetables juices soups and dried fruits under the point system begins March 1 with 48 points per person and blue stamps A B C to be used. Retail sales will pause from midnight February 20 and resume March 1.

The War Department notified Mr and Mrs Arthur Smith of Cleveland now residents of Pocatello that their son Don was killed in action in New Guinea on January 19. Inducted in late 1941 he served overseas from March 1942. A graduate of Thatcher high school he was a noted basketball player active in LDS missions and Scout work. Memorial services are set for February 21 in Pocatello third ward chapel.
