The USDA War Board urges farmers to use trashy fallow or stubble mulching to conserve soil and keep crop residues on the surface. Gambles Store Closes In Preston After Deliberation
Gambles Store in Preston announced closing this week. Mrs. Tom J. Doyle, managing since her husband joined the armed forces, said there will be no close out sale and stock will be returned to Gambles System in coming days. The closure follows wartime shortages and other difficulties. Mrs. Doyle plans to move closer to Sacramento to join her husband. Merle Nelson of Idaho Falls visited Preston before reporting for duties in the armed forces.

1943 License Plates In Form of Stickers
Franklin county car owners may obtain the 1943 license permit at the office of county assessor Fred Hawkes for the usual five dollars. The plate is a sticker placed on the right side of the windshield. Deputy Assessor W. G. Palmer urges motorists to keep old plates in good condition or repaint if rusted and legible. Lost plates require a two dollar deposit to obtain a state plate. Law requires two plates in good condition and the deadline is March 31.

Gilbert to Appeal State Court in Burglary Case
Earl Gilbert 28 of Fairview filed appeal to Idaho Supreme Court after a verdict for first degree burglary. He was sentenced to seven and a half to 15 years in the state penitentiary for stealing bacon and pork in Franklin County. Bond set at 3000 dollars. Arthur Hedy received a suspended one to 14 year sentence and parole for two years to his brother and another man.
