Prudential Savings and Loan Offices Closed in Idaho Dispute

Two Prudential Savings and Loan stockholders filed suit to reopen the Preston and Burley offices after their closure by the Idaho finance commissioner. The hearing on an order to show cause is set for March 1 in Burley, with possible state action to operate under supervision. The firm has faced liquidity and loan delinquencies since July 1966 and remains under tight money pressure affecting withdrawals and asset protection.

Beet Growers and Sugar Firm Reach Tentative 1967 Contract

Beet growers and Amalgamated Sugar Company officials announced a tentative 1967 beet contractSaturday in Burley. The deal would raise beet payments by about 80 cents to well over one dollar per ton, depending on sugar content, with final approval pending Department of Agriculture review. More than 70 growers and officials from Idaho Utah and Oregon participated as negotiations yielded higher net returns and acreage flexibility for 1967.

High School Ransacked This Week

The West Side high school was broke into Monday night or Tuesday morning with entry gained by prying a rear window using a stolen pick. Almost every room was ransacked and items taken include a table model TV a Victor calculator a tape recorder a portable stereo and a Confederate flag.

Franklin County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee urged wheat and feed-grain producers to sign applications early at the county office. LaGrand Spag of the committee said there is no advantage to waiting until the final week of signup. The early visit allows detailed discussions since staff can devote more time to each producer.

A dispute over an inheritance culminated in a killing in Weston. Arlo Gene Briggs 36 was arrested near Logan after peacefully surrendering from a car at gunpoint. His father Charles Briggs 55, a Union Pacific signal maintainer, was shot dead. wife Carol Briggs was wounded.
