Soldier saves Pomona girl life earns Army Commendation

A former Preston resident now serving in Vietnam received the Army Commendation Medal for saving five year old Laurie Horner in Pomona last July 14. Master Sergeant Gene A. Hansen, son of Mrs. John M. Hansen of Preston, performed mouth to mouth resuscitation to clear the choking girl. His wife Lorraine and their six children live in Pomona while he serves abroad.

State Closes Prudential Savings and Loan in Idaho

Hereford Bulls Sold in Denver Boost Riverdale Breeding Venture

Wen dell Smith and Don Carter of Riverdale buy four top Hereford bulls at the National Western Hereford Sale in Denver. One he is a half brother to the John Wayne purchase, while another was heaviest at the sale. They raise bulls for range men and sell heifers for breeding stock, with 75 to 80 bulls sold this year and about 25 left. The calves will be ready for next year’s market.

Restrictions At City Dump Cleaned Up. Police Chief Urges Proper Dumps

The city dump has been cleaned up and the police chief appeals to users to avoid dumping along roadways or anywhere in the dump yard. Signs will be posted once painted. Fines will be issued for restricted-area dumping.

Juveniles Arrested in Preston Lewiston Case

Nine juveniles from the Preston and Lewiston areas were arrested last weekend in Preston on charges of drunkenness and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. A 14 year old girl was involved. Probate Judge O D Robinson states three others may be brought in related to the case. another hearing is pending.

Status Quo Possible For Utility Taxes

The Idaho Supreme Court ruled last week that the assessment of utility property was unconstitutional. Counties face large financial quandaries and school districts, especially the West Side district, could see serious trouble. State tax officials expect no immediate action on money already paid.
