Bear River project aims to irrigate 29000 acres in Franklin County
David L. Crandall of the Bureau of Reclamation outlined two Bear River project plans to irrigate dry land and expand existing irrigation in Idaho Utah and Franklin county. Plan 1 would store 315000 acre feet below Steward Dam with 435000 acre foot reservoir at Oneida Narrows and cost about 87.8 million dollars. Plan 2 would add Honeyville Caribou and Smithfield reservoirs totaling 213000 acre feet and cost about 107.7 million dollars. Both plans include East Cache development and would likely require user charges near three dollars per acre foot per year plus possible federal funding and tax changes.

The Preston Lions Club announces the Miss Franklin County Pageant set for March 25 at Preston High School Auditorium. Eligible entrants must be 18 by December 1 and under 28, not married or divorced, with scholarships totaling about 500 dollars and competition in the Miss Idaho event. Second Ward Names New Bishopric
Loyal Hansen Preston real estate man was named bishop of the Preston Second ward Sunday night. He succeeds Maxee Chandler who has been transferred to Pocatello by the J C Penney company. Sustained as counselors to Bishop Hansen were Dan L Belnap and Danald R Austin. Charles M Crabtree was named clerk of the ward. Others released were Richard Jensen and Arland Purger as counselors and George Bodily W DeLos Hansen and Thorel G Porter as clerks. The reorganization was effected by W Dean Palmer Franklin stake president. Bishop Hansen has served as a temple officiator and two foreign missions and chairs the Franklin District Boy Scouts. Belnap, born in the ward, moved back about three years ago and has been MIA superintendent. Austin is Preston police chief and has long lived in the ward. Crabtree recently retired from Amalgamated Sugar and now does bookkeeping.

Forest Service Plans Hiring Of Seasonal Workers
The U S Forest Service seeks three seasonal employees for the Preston Ranger District. One hire starts about May 7 and runs to mid October, another from June 1 to September 15. Applicants must be at least 18. Wage options include Forestry Aid 3 at 1.98 per hour or Forestry Aid 4 at 2.30 per hour. Tasks include manual labor, tool use, fence and trail work, disposal, planting, maintenance, cleanup and forest fire fight.

Three Juveniles Arrested for Refuge Club Burglary
Three 14 year old youths admitted breaking into the Refuge club Sunday. Police Chief Danald Austin said they took about 38 dollars in change and 37 packs of cigarettes after count at Ace Beckstead’s service station. They appeared before Juvenile Judge O. D. Robinson and were placed in parental custody with another hearing planned.
