Arthur Moser Dairy Leaders Elected in Franklin County
Arthur Moser of Preston was elected president of the Franklin County Dairy Herd Improvement association on Tuesday January 30, succeeding Alma Choules of Fairview. Elmo Beckstead of Preston and Earl Shumway of Franklin joined the executive board, with Henry Drury of Fairview and Darrell Rogers of Dayton as hold over members. Beckstead became secretary. The 1944 report showed 430 cows tested averaging 364.5 pounds of fat, up 14 pounds from 1943. A Lewiston Utah cow reached 616.8 pounds of fat. 16 cows had 305 day records over 500 pounds, 72 over 400, and 61 cows were culled for poor profitability. The top herds were Drury and Sons at 433.3 pounds, Glen Nelson at 432.2, and B R Hall at 411.7.

Farm Goals Conference set for Franklin County 1945
Franklin county will hold a 1945 farm goals conference Saturday February 10 at the courthouse. A team led by Quince Rice will discuss wartime food needs and the 1945 production outlook with state AAA extension and USDA War Board representatives. Final county crop and livestock goals will be approved and post meeting plans will mobilize farmers to record 1945 production plans and aid practices for potential AAA payments.

Checks totaling over 31000 dollars are being sent this week to six thousand members of the Utah Poultry Producers Cooperative Association. A. W. Cherrington of Springville, the association president, says the payments are 5 percent interest on reserve funds contributed by members per dozen of eggs handled, distributed through twenty one branches in Utah and Southern Idaho. Preston poultry producers will receive 2539 dollars in these interest payments.

Franklin Man Elmer D Handy Dies After Heart Attack
Funeral services were held in the LDS chapel in Franklin for Elmer D. Handy 59 who died Saturday afternoon from a heart attack after returning from chores. He was born March 28, 1886, in Franklin to James and Lucy Handy and married Mae Biggs in Logan temple. He is survived by his wife and several siblings including Blanche Kingsford Ruth Nelson Elmer Dean Handy serving in China, and others in Franklin Logan Bountiful Cove and Logan. Burial followed at Franklin Cemetery under Hendricks Mortuary.
