Judge Brown to preside over Franklin and Power courts in 1960

Legal notice states Judge Brown will preside over district court cases in Franklin and Power counties in 1960. Judge John A. Carver will be presiding in Bear Lake and Caribou counties. Franklin term dates are January 4 for spring, May 2 for summer, and September 12 for fall.

Preston Golf Course Progress Advances On

Work on the Preston Golf and Country Club progresses with volunteers finishing underground iron pipe and risers around the greens. Howard H. Johnson says cast iron pipe will be tapped if weather stays favorable and urges prospective members to contact directors before price increases.

Geddes Named Bishop in Banida Ward Service

The Banida wardof Oneida stake appointed Robert C. Geddes as bishop Sunday evening. Councilors Ernest Gregersen and John Manning were sustained, with William Sparks as clerk. The former bishopric served six and a half years during the meeting led by Pres. Shirley M. Palmer and other officers.

Poultry Association Redeems Certificates

Gustave C. Hedin, chairman of the Franklin County Poultry Association, announced redemption of revolving fund certificates for 1954. Certificates are redeemable at the Utah Poultry and Farmers Cooperative plant office in Preston, with $3,000 being redeemed at this time by patrons.

Franklin County Receives Forest Fund Share Totals

County receipts from National Forest funds allocated by Ralph E. Crowell show Cache County getting 5490.11, Bear Lake 3712.95, and Franklin as third highest with 2868.31. Funds are distributed by law based on the county’s share of national forest land.

Local firms plan weekend closings for Christmas

Condie Named Top Cadet at Utah Air ROTC

Elbert B DeLyle Condie son of Mr and Mrs P M Condie of Preston has been named a distinguished cadet by the Air Force ROTC at the University of Utah. A senior sociology major he serves as deputy commander of the corps in Utah and has been active in student affairs. He starred in basketball for three years at Preston High where he graduated in 1953 and participated in sports student government choir and band.

Dairy Club Herdsman Award At Christmas Party

Keith Thomas led the 4 H dairy club in a belated 1959 4 H Herdsman Dairy award presentation by Morning Milk Company at the Sixth Ward Church Recreation Room on December 19. The award honored best livestock exhibit at the Franklin County Fair. The evening featured slides from the fair a movie This In Cache Valley chili supper and ice cream bars. County Agents DeVere Tovey and Daniel Roberts attended with the club.

Preston defeated West Side 53 to 51 Friday night in Dayton. David Hart led Preston with 12 rebounds, while Steve Porter scored 27 points and had nine rebounds. West Side was led by Phil Schivaneveldt with 16 points as Preston earned a three wins one loss start to the season.

Local Chamber course teaches practical politics to members

Fourteen members of the Pres ton Chamber of Commerce completed the first in a series of practical politics courses. Royce Fuhri man and Robert Acock led discussions as Milton Owen and Phenbi Edgley presented party programs.
