Sizeable Increase Noted In Local Retail Sales

The four year period shows Franklin county retail sales rising by 604000 as inflation and higher living costs affected the nation. Local families spent more, with per family expenditures at 5793 compared to 5203 nationally and 5533 statewide, aided by rising real incomes and job security. Local stores and employers grew, with 94 stores and 333 employers seeing higher sales. The gain is expected to moderate amid tighter credit controls.

Continental Kitchens grows fast in Spokane from six to forty five workers

A former Banida resident started Continental Kitchens in Spokane 18 months ago. Under Chris Christensen the firm now employs 45, manufactures modular kitchen cabinets, ships across the Northwest to Alaska, California and Texas, and can produce 12 to 15 kitchens daily while outfitting 300 to 400 apartment units in the past year. The plant uses mass production with standard sizes and eight colors, offering competitive prices and custom work.

Christmas Dances Planned by Phi Dels and West Side

The Phi Dels sponsor a Christmas dance in the high school gym at 8:30 p.m. December 20 with best dress and live orchestra. Theme Silver Bells. admission 1.25 per couple and .75 stag. West Side marching corps Pirettes host their annual Christmas dance Saturday December 20 after the Malad West Side game with admission 0.50 stag and 0.75 per couple.

Community Center Completion Nears at Franklin County Fair Grounds

The Franklin County Fair Grounds to host the chamber of commerce banquet on Jan 12 in the new metal community center. Dan Roberts says the building will be finished in time. Howard Schow of Preston is contracted to insulate panel and heat interior. Al Minton of Idaho Development and Commerce will speak.

Fourth Grade Christmas Program at Jefferson School

The fourth grade at Jefferson school presents a Christmas program titled Merry Christmas Mr. Snowman at Preston high school auditorium Friday at 1 15 p m. It is a repeat performance today for the school children with teachers Elaine Westerberg Glen Gamble and Sylvester Anderson assisting. Center section of the auditorium reserved for parents.

Snowmobile group forms in Franklin County

A gathering Thursday saw snowmobilers create the Franklin County Snowmobile Association and establish a temporary committee to organize a charter. Niel Nelson and Jon Nelson are named on the initial committee to promote the new county organization.

Christmas Edition Advances One Day Early Next Week

The Citizen announces its Christmas edition will publish two days early due to the holiday. Letters and advertising copy must be in by Saturday at noon. The issue will feature annual Christmas greetings.

Grain Growers Reelect Foster as President in Annual Meet

Cecil Foster of Whitney was reelected president of Franklin County Grain Growers at the annual meeting. Jean Smith of Riverdale was reappointed vice president, Wayne Doney kept secretary treasurer and manager. Robert Geddes of Banida joined the board joining officers Orval Benson Whitney LaGrande Spatig Maple. Doney reported 15000 in current patronage and 15000 in back patronage this year, with profit up 10000 and gross income about 2750000, of which 750000 came from mill feeding operations.
