Move Junior High Schools Study Middle Plan At Board

The school board heard Dr Orson Bowler outline a middle school plan that would keep Central for now, remove the junior high from the high school and reassign grades across Central Franklin Whitney and Jefferson. The proposal envisions a nine through twelve high school with 570 students and a seven period day as a possibility for future study.

Showboats Slated For Field Benefit in Preston Weekend

The Harlem Showboats, known as the World Famous and World’s Craziest basketball team, visit Preston this weekend for a field benefit to fund a new high school football field. They meet Preston faculty Saturday at 8 pm in the high school gym with acts and ball handling. Tickets cost 1 for adults and 50 cents for students.

The Doyle Lewis barn in Fairview burned Wednesday after a heatlamp likely started the fire. Mrs Lewis saw flames from the kitchen window. The blaze destroyed hay six calves two tractors a hay baler and a ditcher. The Preston Fire Department prevented spread to the loafing shed and corral fences.

Two Preston Boys Lost Overnight In Pine Basin Search Ends

Two Preston boys Vaughn Rasmussen and Jim Robinson were lost for hours Sunday in White Pine Basin near Cottonwood. They, with Michael Merrill and Gary Bowen, started at 8 am chasing a deer and became separated. A midnight fire led rescuers to them by 12:30 pm, and they were found safe.

Forest Service Seeks Study Before Bergquist Springs Water Project

The Forest Service told Preston City Council a study of the Bergquist Springs is required before water project plans proceed. District ranger Don Ward said data must be gathered and submitted to the regional office. He noted the springs could be a site for recreation or tourism but stressed no halt to the water system is anticipated. Ward and city engineer Wendell Smith will meet to prepare the material for the service.
