The Bear River Compact commission adjourned near noon Tuesday after two days of hearings in Preston as Utah Idaho and Wyoming face disagreements over water shares. A engineering committee and a legal panel were formed to study engineering problems and decrees while plans to expand stream gauging with about 14 more stations were approved.

Everett C. Petterborg aged 37 died suddenly of a heart seizure in Los Angeles where he had lived six years. Funeral services set for Friday at 1 p.m. in the first ward chapel with Bishop Lyman Purser officiating. Survived by Helen Coburn Petterborg wife two daughters Judith Ann and Lani Jean of Los Angeles parents Emil O. and Emma Hansen Petterborg a sister and four brothers all listed with Preston ties. Burial in Preston cemetery. Funeral arrangements by Webb Mortuary.

Anthony William Lofthouse, 86, died at the home of his daughter Mrs. William Hulse in Preston Saturday afternoon after an extended illness. He was born September 6, 1862, at Paradise, Utah, a son of James and Charlotte Woodhead Lofthouse, and lived at Paradise until 1935.

Sergeant Gerald Lien Receives Promotion in Recruiting
Gerald Lien, local U S Army and Air Force recruiter, was promoted from staff sergeant to technical sergeant. The advance was effective Monday after a similar rise from buck sergeant in 1947. Lien, who reenlisted recently at Fort Douglas, plans to make the Air Force his life career.

Elias Layne 90 Early Settler Dies in Preston Home
Elias Bassett Layne, 90, a pioneer settler long in Lewiston and Hooper Utah, died Tuesday at 12 20 PM at the home of his daughter Mrs Florence Taylor in Preston where he had lived six years. He was born February 4 1859 in Bountiful Utah and joined the Northern Pacific at 18, later returning to Lewiston and marrying Delilah C Smith June 15 1884 in Hooper. Surviving are three daughters two sons 23 grandchildren 35 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren along with his wife and five other children predeceased him. Funeral arrangements are under Webb mortuary and will be announced later.

Clair Merrill Opens New Store and Service Station
Clair Merrill announces a new service station and store three quarters of a mile south of Preston’s business district. The 34 by 65 foot building, built by McKenzie Call and Christensen, was completed in one month during winter. The venture, run by Mr and Mrs Merrill, will offer groceries candies and confectionery with Sinclair gas as pumps come online late this week or early next week. Construction began November 1 and finished December 1.
Scoutmasters Plan Winter Camp With Parents
Scoutmasters of troops 31 32 and 33 met with scouts parents in Pres ton third ward to discuss a winter camp. Movies of winter and summer camps were shown to illustrate activities and a camp site is planned at the old CCC camp in Cub river canyon with a hike from Deer Cliff inn to spend the night of Dec 27. A sports program and a radio broadcast are planned from the camp in the evening.

Certificates issued to Franklin county teachers vary by side
