Large Margin Okehs New School Zones

Voters in the Eastside district approve rezoning into five trustee zones by a wide margin. Ballot tally shows 252 in favor to 14 opposed with an May election for board members. Zone divisions restructure prior districts including Banida and Preston areas.

Santa Returns and Miss Julie to Pageant in Preston

Santa Claus visited Preston on Friday marking the season’s first appearance. He will return on December 1 with Miss Julie Ana Anderson and Joan Castleton for a Children’s Christmas program on December 13 at 1 pm. Santa will hand out candy sacks to children. Merchants Committee says events are free and stores will stay open until 8 pm on December 6 12 20 22 23.

Stake Names New High Councilor In Franklin Stake

Idaho State patrolman Eudean Gunnell was named to the Franklin Stake high council Sunday at the quarterly conference. Pres W Dean Palmer presided. Gunnell succeeds William Davis who has been called to serve a full time mission.

National Farm Bureau winners to attend Washington convention

Mrs. Stephen Noyes and Mrs. Larry Jacobsen will fly to Washington D C next week to attend the National Farm Bureau convention after winning the Idaho Farm Bureau Entertainment Talent Contest. They will sing at meetings of the Golden Anniversary convention. Franklin County receives an Awards Program prize for yearly achievements and a trophy for information program work. Marlow C. Woodward, president of the county Farm Bureau, receives a trophy and a gold vest for reaching membership goals.

Beet Shares Go Into Effect In 1970

Sugar beet growers are reminded that proportionate shares will apply to the 1970 program year. Shares are based on history years 1969 68 and 67. New growers may qualify under certain conditions if they did not plant in a history year. Two Year County Plan Study Concludes in Franklin County

A comprehensive water and sewer plan funded by a 5000 grant from Farmers Home Administration will be released December 10. Preston City Names Gailey Chief of Police

Bert Gailey, acting police chief, was named chief of police by the Preston city council on Monday night. Ralph Spence Phillips, 22, of Logan, was named patrolman and released from the Army in May. he is currently with E A Miller and Sons Packing and has served on the Logan Police reserve.
