Several hundred guests will attend a Scout banquet tonight at the Franklin stake house starting at 7 o'clock. The program includes assembly and seating, Melo Dians chorus, call to order by Hunsaker, community singing, opening ceremony, invocation by P. H. Edgley, a district roll call, greetings by H. R. O’Hurren, nominating committee report, training awards, and presentations to scoutmasters from various troops.

At the county ACA annual election last Friday Woodrow Rasmussen was re elected as chairman to head the Franklin county ACA committee. Abel W. Steven son as vice chairman and Wilford Stokes as regular member were also elected. Delegates from six districts named John McQueen Wheeler Stokes Lee Schwan eveldt Kermit Shumway Rasmussen and Lovell Mendenhall to serve as ACA officers for 1948.

Elks Plan Christmas Baskets and Charity Ball

Lions Finish Lighting Project at City Library
Preston Lions completed a 900 dollar lighting upgrade at the city library. The system now delivers about 60 foot candles across the building, replacing the former three to ten foot candle level. The public reopened the library after a three day shutdown for installation.

Christmas seal sale supports county tuberculosis work
Mrs. Abner Larsen chairs the county anti tuberculosis chapter announcing this year 50 percent of all funds stay locally to aid school immunization programs. Ninety five percent stay in state with five percent to the national foundation. Tuberculosis patch tests will be provided for county children with the association paying 2.50 per x ray. Last year 79 positive reactions occurred among students. no active cases were found on x ray. The new state tuberculosis hospital at Gooding will be funded from the campaign. Recreation Plans for Winter Activities at Local Venues
A meeting of the recreation committee outlined winter plans using the school gym and the Latter-day Saints church for activities. The gym will open Saturday 10 to 12 for 4th to 6th graders, the opera house 1 to 5 for older youths, with Leo Boden in charge. Franklin and Oneida stake men and scouts will use the opera house for basketball on Mon Thu Fri evenings. high school games and other groups will use the school gym. An ice pond will be set up at Central for smaller children supervised by Carl P. Nielsen, with a rink on the pond and a hockey setup. Skiing was noted but not heavily promoted at this time.
