Beet growers receive record sugar beet payments in Franklin County
Beets paid a record per ton price of 12 dollars for 1947 with a total disbursed of 824 965 dollars to Franklin County growers and an expected 2 54 dollars per ton shortly to bring the 1947 crop total to 14 547 dollars per ton earlier. N R Millar resigns as manager of the Franklin County Poultrymen's Association to start Millar's Hatchery on South State street in Preston. Melvin Westerberg, already with the plant since 1934, is chosen to succeed him and lead the egg department as the facility expands from 280 to 1650 cases per week at the new modern building with 19 employees. Vehicles Overturn In Two Accidents Injuries Reported
Frank Palmer sustained a back injury when his jeep overturned after passing two cars four miles south of Grace on Monday of last week. He remains bedridden for months after treating at Prestor hospital. Mr and Mrs Durrant Mendenhall are honored by their children on their golden wedding anniversary. Open house will be at 239 S 1st E Preston from 2 to 7 p.m. They were married in the Logan temple and have lived in Franklin County all their lives. Preston high school choir robes arrived this week funded by a PTA project. About 800 dollars of the 1050 cost is in hand with more promised. Donations came from BPOE 500 First Security Bank 100 Dick Tufts 25 and the PTA 162. Contests will choose 80 members from 200 vocal students for the a capella group, with older students given preference.
