Awards Presented to 4 H Club Members in 1959

Fifty eight 4 H club members earned county awards for top project records in the 1959 year. Awards sponsored by nationwide industries and institutions aim to boost 4 H work. The winners were selected by the 4 H award committee led by Lorin J Bodily with Monta Nelson Fairview Edna Nelson Mink Creek on the panel.

Kiwanis Club Hosts 4-H Christmas Party in Preston High

Franklin County 4-H members and families attend the annual Kiwanis 4 H party at Nelson gym Preston High School. The Preston Kiwanis club sponsored games dancing a tree Santa Claus and caroling with Elmo Peterson and Don Pack present. Leaders Ellen Gibson Ellen Roberts and many volunteers organized refreshments games and decorations while the National Guard provided the sound system.

Funeral services held Saturday for Fanny McQueen Thomas

Funeral services were conducted last Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Preston fourth ward chapel by Bishop Howard Auger. Remarks and life sketch given, songs performed by the Singing Mothers and a musical trio.

Octogenarian Martha Merrill Honored With Family Dinner

An 100th birthday celebration for Martha Mary Carden Merrill, Preston’s long time resident, was held at home of her son Dr. M. O. Merrill. Attendees included four of her five sons and their wives from Preston and Salt Lake City. Eisenhower sent a congratulatory telegram as flowers and cards poured in from church groups and friends.

Farm Bureau Trio Leaves Tomorrow for Chicago

The Farm Bureau trio and accompanist plan to travel by train to attend the National Farm Bureau convention in Chicago. The group includes Amna Lee Fisher Sharon Rawlings Joan Woodward and Lynda Knudson with Mrs Von Noyes as traveling companion. They will perform Sunday evening December 13 at the Sherman Hotel on the young people's program and attend rural youth events Monday at the same hotel.

Robert Acock Elected Preston Chamber President

Robert Acock, local insurance agent, is the newly elected president of the Preston Chamber of Commerce. Roye Fuhriman of Hansen Glass and Paint was chosen as vice president, with new directors G. W. McCune Elda Carlson and Max Norton joining the board. Holdovers include Dr G G Blaser Nat Edwards Ted Larsen and C L Swenson. Ralph Millar will serve as ex officio on the board for another year at the Jan 18 annual meeting in the courthouse dining hall.

Annual Grain Growers Meeting in Franklin County

The Franklin County Grain Growers hold their annual meeting Saturday at 1 30 p.m. in the courthouse. Two directors will be elected for three year terms. Candidates include Joe Christiansen Banida and Orval D Ben son of Whitney.

JoAnn Gamble Wins First Security Bank Award

JoAnn Gamble daughter of Mr and Mrs Glen Gamble of Preston won the First Security Bank award chosen from nearly 700 4 H club members. The watch prize was presented at the Preston Kiwanis club 4 H Christmas party attended by about 500. Gamble completed nine years of 4 H work with 15 projects and held club leadership roles. She attended Idaho 4 H short courses and Alpine recreation programs and led and helped at club camps and fairs. County officials note the award is annual and given for overall club work with the highest score across years.
