Franklin Soil Conservation District Election Set
The Franklin Soil Conservation District plans an election this Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the county agent’s office in the courthouse to choose a supervisor. Eligible voters are landowners within the district. Candidates include Alton Nash and Leon G. Nuffer, with Nash seeking re-election. Petitions by at least 25 district landowners are required for nominating candidates. A district supervisor must be a resident landowner of the district.

John Lewis Roe Former Publisher Dies in California
John Lewis Roe former Preston Citizen publisher died Wednesday in San Diego California from coronary thrombosis. He was born September 28 1894 in Salt Lake City son of Watkin Roe and Ellen Lomax Roe who brought the family to Preston. He edited and published The Citizen with his brother from 1926 to 1942 later returning to printing in San Diego. He is survived by his widow four sons a stepson a sister and many grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 pm in the Preston first LDS ward chapel with burial in Preston Cemetery.

Escapees from Idaho State Hospital Nabbed Near Preston
Four escapees identified as Ray Alder Johnson 30, Barbara Lee Shipley, 22, Thomas Lavern Barlow 22, Mary Louise Milne 20, fled Blackfoot Idaho in a 3951 automobile. They eluded officers in a wild chase northeast of Preston before two were captured at the Johnson home and two others found with Owens farm after spending a night in a hayloft. Local and state officers, plus hospital staff from Blackfoot, recovered the group by morning.

National news notes that 144 Idaho Farm Bureau members will join the American Farm Bureau convention in Miami Beach Florida December 10 to 13. Utah Power and Light Co will again furnish free electricity for Christmas decorations in about 123 cities and towns across Utah Idaho and Wyoming. The program runs from dusk to midnight with lines connected to poles and service wires supplied.
